Boss 302R and 302S registration thread.

As the Boss 302R and 302S conclude their Pro Racing days, collectors are begining to document and outline the whereabouts of each unit built and raced from 2012-2014.

This thread is a landing place for relivant R and S information as well as specific car locations/ owners.

The 302S will make an incredible track car. Who else is lucky enough to own one?

Update:

located and tracked 10 of the 50 2014s fairly easily on the Net. Seems Ford took this offering a year too long as more than a handful are still at he dealers and/or heading to Mecum.

Watson Eng. was super receptive when I phoned. I'm confident they'll be helping with build info on each car.

I've seen two at dealerships. One at San Francisco Sports Cars in Belmont, and another at Towne Ford in Redwood City. The one in Redwood City is owned and usually just on display at the dealership. I'm not sure about any specs or use though

2011 Boss 302R #002
Colts Neck NJ
Eric/Alex Rockwell
Raced in IMSA from 2010 to 2016 under Racers Edge Motorsports, Last Boss Mustang to run In IMSA

Continues to be raced today in Endurance Races by our team.

the5 I can say with certainty that your chassis is not the original Boss 302R 002. I can say with high confidence that your chassis was a replacement for 002 when it was crashed at either COTA 2013 or Road America 2014. Chances are your chassis was a BIW assembled with parts stripped from 002.

Below are four points that support my claim.

My chassis has the serial number Boss302R1 002 attached to the dash/windshield area.
20170112_184539.JPG

Boss 302R chassis starting with xx1 - 012 had welded in package trays that were painted white. Beginning with chassis #13 the package trays were riveted in and painted black.

I have interior pics that were posted online in 2010 from Daytona that show roll cage welding/splatter patterns and paint runs that match my chassis.

I have pics dated back to 2010 of the roll cage in the A-pillar area that matches dents in cage of my chassis.

In the end depends what you consider the car, The chassis is just another replacement part.
For me I race it so I dont Really care.

I have R VIN#019, delivered from Multimatic as back-up to XX2 (well with the same paint scheme), both shown at Multimatic Factory in Markham Canada.

That's Sean and I going over items on collection day.

We need to figure out how many R's (and S's) were built, not including BIW's made by Phoenix and others. Although those cars are Historic in their own right.

FYI, all my paperwork from Multimatic states that my car is a 2010 Boss 302R. The story behind this is Multimatic was given the green light to build 20 of them plus XX1 and XX2, I believe XX1 was retub'd twice, once for a wreck at (VIR ??? and the other at Laguna Seca..positive on Laguna). There was one another BOSS302RLWTXX1 that was built and sold at auction a few years back. https://www.mecum.com/lots/SC0515-214559/2012-ford-mustang-boss-302r-lightweight/

VIN#20 was to be the last of the 2010 run of R's (mind you not all were made in 2010 as 2011, 2012 year builds still were under the original build order so no official 2011, 2012's were idenitified, they were all 2010's ...if you get all that).

Now, this is the fuzzy part. Is there an R VIN #21, 22 etc out there, or did Multimatic just build a few retub'd wrecked R's after 2012. I remember back in 2012 Sean saying he was going in (to Ford) to extend the build beyond VIN#20 but I've never heard of an R out there. So, if you follow my logic above I say (23) R's were built plus any re-tub's but we don't actually add those to the count as they're replacements.

Again, R's didn't have the year in the VIN where 13, 14 S's do. (I believe 12 S's had no year in VIN)

Interesting point above on the re-tub of #002. Normally that doesn't happen, meaning the Team crushes the old wrecked body beyond and takes only the VIN (and any salvageable parts) to place on the new BIW re-tub. Since the 002 VIN and tub survived, I would say that's the real car. Now, I've heard of the original Team being allowed to get a replacement VIN and putting it on the BIW but only when the Factory knows the old tub is gone for good.

So, it looks like we have (24) R's out there, or do we??

It would be interesting if someone had the "car number" sheets saved from 2010 onward from Grand-Am. Usually it listed chassis numbers that were registered at the beginning of the year.

Here is what I have so far. I'll update as information comes to light.

Early chassis DASH serial numbers were stamped as (Boss302R1) while the later chassis were stamped as (BOSS302R). The serial numbers on the X of the roll cage were stamped (Boss302R1) at least through chassis 013.

Roush had at least one 302R chassis that was destroyed. I think it might have been 007.

Shelby Blackstock (Reba McEntire's son...) has a 302R. I'm trying to determine which number chassis he has.
