I remember seeing that one on EBay a while back. There were a ton of pictures of the car inside/out/underneath. Great looking car--I think it was one of the StarWorks cars (not 100% on this)...those guys seem to have aborted their customer program for GS after the cavalcade of carnage caused by their customer drivers during the Barber race that year (can't remember what year--13 or 14) and the next few races of the season.

Hi there - I purchased the Boss 302R from the US last year from CLP Motorsports and am racing it here in New Zealand. Interestingly if this is the same car mentioned here I had no idea that it had been damaged - there is certainly no signs of repairs apart from some minor inner gaurd repairs on the left rear. The car has no Vin number under the front screen but has the number 302R1 002 on the cross of the cage. I would be very intested to learn more about this cars history if anyone could help me. Many thanks

BKB, your chassis is not the wrecked 302R1 002 chassis mentioned above. That chassis is currently in my garage. Wait, maybe I should double check... Yep, 002 is currently in my garage.

I've verified that my chassis matches weld/splatter patterns and paint marks/runs (much like fingerprints) from photos posted online of it back in 2010 at Daytona.

My chassis also has the white welded in rear package tray panels. Chassis from 013 and later had riveted panels.

My guess is that the stamped VIN plate missing (pried off) from my chassis ended up on your replacement chassis.

Here is the thread from Jan/Feb 2010 showing pics from Daytona. Post #32 shows a pic on the interior of my chassis.

the5 I can say with certainty that your chassis is not the original Boss 302R 002. I can say with high confidence that your chassis was a replacement for 002 when it was crashed at either COTA 2013 or Road America 2014. Chances are your chassis was a BIW assembled with parts stripped from 002.

Below are four points that support my claim.

My chassis has the serial number Boss302R1 002 attached to the dash/windshield area.

Boss 302R chassis starting with xx1 - 012 had welded in package trays that were painted white. Beginning with chassis #13 the package trays were riveted in and painted black.

I have interior pics that were posted online in 2010 from Daytona that show roll cage welding/splatter patterns and paint runs that match my chassis.

I have pics dated back to 2010 of the roll cage in the A-pillar area that matches dents in cage of my chassis.

Many thanks for that - so can you please clarify for me - if the car I have has had the Vin plate from your car attached to the Roll cage - what car do I have ? Is it a new body shell perhaps and if so is it a genuine multimatic built 302R car or something else ?

Hi again - mmm this is interesting. I note that racers Edge raced two Boss 302R's in the 2015 IMSA season - one with racing number 78 as per your photo and one with race number 57 which is the car I have. I wonder which car is 002 ?
Could you also enlighten me - what does BIW stand for ?
Many thanks for your help.

The original 002 chassis debuted at Daytona 2010 and was crashed at COTA in 2013 while running the #78.

Racers Edge replaced the 002 chassis with a new chassis which became the new #78.

The original 002 was later repaired and returned to service in 2014 running the #79. Later in 2014 at Road America, 002 was crashed again. It was never raced again and was written off by Racers Edge and replaced with another chassis.

My guess is that this new chassis is the chassis you currently own. I can study pics to see if I can find any evidence that supports this.

The original 002, along with XX1, XX2, and 001-012 had welded in package trays that were painted white. Starting with 013 there was an assembly procedure change and the package tray was riveted in place and painted black. The original 002 also has several unique damage, construction, paint, etc characteristics based on dated photos that match my chassis.

BIW stands for Body in White. This is a bare chassis. My understanding is the BIW chassis were built by Watson Racing.

If your chassis is an original Boss 302R built by MultiMatic then is should have the VIN type Serial Number on the dash under the windshield.

Many thanks for this information - the history of 002 is certainly complicated. I will check over the next few days if the package tray is welded or riveted although if my car has a chassis built by Watson Racing, I guess it would depend on how they fitted the package tray during its fabrication.
My car certainly has all the genuine 302R racing bits on it - suspension, differential and gearbox coolers, brakes, seem welding, cage, seats, wheels and a Motec dash (as opposed to an Aims dash) which Multimatic have confirmed for me was fitted in the original build.
The fact that Racers Edge raced 2 cars in 2015 as numbers 78 and 57 confuses me - perhaps the 78 was one of the cars you mention but my car was number 57 and in fact is the number I am still using.
If as you state Multimatic cars had the Vin number under the windshield, the fact that mine has no number there suggests that it is a BIW chassis and I have no concerns about this as the car is certainly in great condition.

I really appreciate your help with this
