Cost to Repaint Mustang?

Hello all,

This is just a question borne out of curiosity mostly. I have always wanted a white sports car. Don't ask me why, but the new Ford GT in white gives me funny feelings in strange places.

Now that you have that image seared into your brain, I do think white is also very boring and as soon as I saw the new Avalanche Grey in person on a Raptor, my jaw dropped. Question is, how much would it run to me repaint my 2007 GT/CS Avalanche Grey with a good quality paint that will last? I don't want the interior to be grey (second half of my dream is a black interior with red seats and accents, which I already have and love), but I do want a good job done on the exterior, including under the hood. Additionally, I'd want a black roof.

Thoughts? Do you need more details? I've browsed through random internet stuff but the estimates are all over the place (as expected).

A good paint job can be as much as 20,000 bucks.
What's your budget and what do you want? You can also look into full wraps which are pretty good now days

Wrapping is also a viable option. Materials have come a long way.

Byron is right, the range is pretty wide on paint depending on quality. I'd expect to spend $3-4K for a suitable (non-show car quality) job.

Full car wrap, single color, with installation labor is probably around that same price.

I'd be looking right around $4-5k. I am not actually doing this,and if I were it wouldn't be for a few years from now (time to save). My friend wrapped his GT-R in his garage and it turned out quite nice so I'm not opposed to wrapping it either. Was just curious.

Absolutely understand. If you're willing to wrap the vehicle yourself, you can cut materials costs down to under $1K...the rest is beer money

What ever happened to Earl Schieb's any car 19.95 full car paint job. We use to say if you leave the windows down, he'll paint the interior for free!


A really good paint job means disassembly and that of course will skyrocket the price.

I have seen bugs and dirt under some of the Earl specials. Car was not even washed, just sprayed

This. All the disassembly and crap is labor intensive. If you can deliver the car to a painter with ALL the trim and engine bay parts you want painted around it would go a long way to saving your money.

Otherwise costs depend on how good you want the finished product.

I was under the impression Earl Schieb was no longer in business. We used to have one here but that closed over 20 yrs ago. You could get your car painted cheap....but don't take it to any car shows.................

I was just debating painting my door and fender myself. Any tips?? Apart from dont do it! LoL.... I have serious trust issues with leaving my car at a Shop. Last time I did that the rear tires looked very worn......

Painting isn't *that* hard. Easier with panels that are off the car. You could also deliver loose panels to most body shops so they don't have free use of the car...

If the prep is well done and the color coat isn't goofed-up, then a lot can be done to 'perfect' the clear coat afterwards. Don't ask me how I know

Start out slow and get progressively slower and grind down your paint speed to something just above a halt.

Patience is the key to rattle or soup can painting. Something I have little of.

If it's something you can tackle yourself you're better off...next option is a shop you really trust...after that all bets are off...like you saw before expect those rear tires to be worn, sad to say!

Just as I was about to start prepping for painting at home. A friend got a Local Ford dealers Body shop to paint one side of the car for US$825! Since its a factory shop complete with registered control of the car and using Factory paints...Crazy to say no!! Will take the car in on Monday and pick it up a week later, also includes a detailing!!
