Huge brake upgrade for S197 chassis

One piece GT-500 rotors on my car. Floating two piece is actually a counter to knockback. Which is why captdistraction is moving that direction.

I drive the car on the street as well, but the issue is only really present on the track. 315 section Cup 2 tires at all four corners for the track, regular old summer performance tires on the street. Something (likely multiple things combined) in there is flexing through the corners. It never seemed as bad as Terry Fair experienced, but I'm not a licensed competitor either.

Solid explanation! Thank you, now I have a justification for spending nearly 1000 on 2 piece DBA rotors!!!!

DBA rotors are not true "floating" rotors, the hats are fixed. They behave like solid rotors, only lighter. Instead buy Girodisc or OEM Brembo 2-piece rotors. They are both floating meaning the rotor is spring loaded to the hat and can float between your pads instead of knocking them back.

Thank you gents.
I was enjoying a drive through the mountains at like 5/10ths pace and the hawk ceramics began to fade. Need to upgrade the pads further. I'll try the 16/12s. Thank you.

Yikes, just read GLocs R16 description. Having not used GLocs or these 6pistons for long I think I'm going to go a little less agressive. Also concerned of the heat needed once it's cool in the Bay area again. Keeps the recs coming gents!

Anyone know of a club that utilizes Sonoma and/or Laguna Seca?

And stay away from the Hawk ceramics or HPS pads!! Might be fine for small diesel cars!!! really really dislike those pads.. They can really get you in trouble if you push your car.......

Pagid RS29 pads are very expensive but work great on the road or track. They last for ever and will work cold..... Can be noisy though.

They really do last for ever... with me they last longer then the discs! But $$

Hooked on Driving has many dates at both tracks. Click on their link at the side or bottom of the page. I’ll be at Thunderhill on June 3rd with HOD.

Anyone offering a gloc discount for forum members?
We do not and we are under agreement with G-LOC to maintain pricing. The pricing on our website includes pre-bedding and shipping. At this point in the season availability is running about 2 weeks out. Sometimes we get lucky, but do not plan on waiting to the last minute.

If you are looking for a pad for the street and Auto-X R8 or R10. I don't really have recommendations for "Mountain Runs" but I assume it means lot's of indecisive brake riding, unintentional trail-braking etc. at low speeds which will just melt down a race compound from any brake pad manufacturer. Unless you are planning on road courses where you do see straight sections of track where ground speed approaches 120+ so brake cooling has time to work (assuming you have brake cooling) then you could look at R12-16 compounds. We usually recommend starting on a lower compound if you have never run a true race compound. It requires some driver adjustment to make it successful. Most of our Customers have started at R10 and as their ability and goals have changed are typically running R16's. While somerun R16's on the street it is usually to run to the corner store, drop the kids off at school and be that Parent ;) LOL. R16 is a very hardcore track pad as most of our Customers will attest. Compounds in the R16-18 range are for one purpose and they can increase the cost of other consumables. We stick to a fairly strict guideline as far as trying to recommend dual purpose brake pads...we don't. Performance brake pads are street pads, race brake pads are track pads. They are poor at the others job. Personally I run the same set of R10's that I have had on for far too long due to lack of track time. I can exceed them and the tire but I have used them at some tracks that are hard on brakes, like Sebring. I think the are very livable on the street but they are a 1400F track compound and have come off track with rotor temps around 700F after a cooldown lap and brake cooling. Choosing a pad is more involved than many people think.

Does anyone know if the Vorshlag SS brake lines would work with the S550 6 pistons? I've been running these on my 4 piston Brembos for 2 years and they're great.

NASA regularly runs at Sonoma. Speed SF and NCRC both run events at Laguna Seca, and at least one of them also runs at Sonoma. All have groups that range from rank beginners to full open track. If you’re a beginner, NASA is excellent. If you’re experienced, then the others might prove more to your liking.
