Inner Tie Rod S197

Ford has different part numbers for their inner tie rod depending on wheel size. Does anyone know what the difference is between the various configurations/part numbers?
tie-rods listed for the S197 depend on the wheels size like you said. This link has pictorial representations/drawings for each part listed and it also gives the individual components for each of the 3 different tie rods by clicking on each tie rod listed. There are differences illustrated and they are shown. You might want to take a look here.

Hope this is of some help.

Good question. I suspect the ones for 19" and 20" rears are more durable for the Brembo/Boss/GT500, since they are the same part#. Could be an included part in the kit like a different steering limiter since those are all 9" or 9.5" wide fronts.

Grant, that is what I was thinking as well. I ordered the version for an 18" wheel, by mistake, for my Boss and compared the original tie rod to the replacement and they appeared to be physically the same. I did not compare the limiters and I wound up using the originals.

Are there limiters inside all of them? Reason I ask is that I just bought the Roush limiter set because my 2014 was originally a base GT with 18x8 wheels and I want to go to an 18x10 square setup.

I have since put in 18x9 wheels with 265/40 up front and Brembo 4-pots with 3" Vorshlag brake ducts.

My tires barely rub on my duct hose and I want to go to an 18x10 with 285s setup.

That's why I bought the limiters. Since mine was originally an 18x8 car it may not have an limiters. I've always been amazed at the tight turning radius. But if it does have a limiter, is it ok to stack another limiter next to it?

I looked through the Ford catalog which I linked above and I cross referenced every model and every year S197 Mustang. This Ford catalog indicates there are only 3 inner tie-rods for the S197 Mustang: Part #'s BR3Z-3280-A, BR3Z-3280-B, and BR3Z-3280-C which are for application to 17, 18, and 19 inch wheels respectively. These 3 inner tie-rods apply "to every" S197 Mustang model which are: (2011) Base, GT, Shelby GT500: (2012) Base, Boss 302, GT, Shelby GT500: (2013) Base, Boss 302, GT, Shelby GT500: (2014) Base, GT, Shelby GT500. Based on the information provided in this Ford catalog, it appears there are no other distinctions between the application of these 3 tie-rods other than the size of the wheel diameter and that these 3 tie-rods each have different limit lengths. There is no indication these tie-rods are constructed of higher-strength materials or of larger diameter rods. It appears that wheel diameter is the only determining factor in the selection of a S197 tie-rod for all Mustang models. Additionally, It did not appear anywhere in this catalog that the S197 offered a 20 inch diameter front wheel for any S197 Mustang so maybe somebody else could chime in here and address that topic separately.

There are limiters that come with the tie rods. The ones that came with the tie rods for the 18" wheels are blue, where as the ones that came stock on my Boss, 19" wheels, are gray. Rousch makes 5mm limiters that you can stack on top of your stock limiters. I believe I got mine through American muscle.
