P51 Wheels

As long as they have enough clearance around the brake calipers they should be fine.

I’d stay away from these. Not much spoke material on these so I question their strength. I did see a pic recently of a P51 wheel failure....cracked spokes.

If you want to go with a spun forged wheel I’d stick with Apex or Forgestar.

I have those wheels as my track set and I am happy with them on the track. Not so much on the street because the Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires that I have on those wheels pick up every little rock and get stuck ( sometimes) between the caliper and the wheel barrel. On the track no issues so far. Now a little more worried when people start to report cracked spokes ? Any chance to share the picture you saw from the P51 wheel failure "CSL" ? Thanks

petstang what size tires & rim set up are you running and how long have you been running the P51's?

I was looking at these others brands but ran into issues with each one
  • Forgestar doesn't make an 11.5 size
  • 949 are out of stock
  • Forgeline are 5 times the money (I realize apple to oranges)
My options at this time look like the Project 6GR TEN or the P51 101RF.

They were posted on FB and there was one wheel maybe two. I usually grab those photos but didn't on this wheel. Just keep an eye on them. If they don't have at least 5mm clearance between the caliper and barrel I'd look for other wheels.

Apex now has 19x11.5" wheels available with more to come.

I have the R set up: 19 X 11 ET 24 Front and 19 X 11.5 ET 56 Rear with Sport Cups 2 tires in R sizes 305/30/19 F and 315/30/19 R

Got them the beginning of this track season and had 2 track days with them so far. NJMP Thunderbolt and Lightning. The other track days I did, there was a rain chance so drove with the OEM wheels and Michelin Super Sports tires. My friend has the same P51 wheels but with 325/30/19 MSC2's in the rear. I believe he did three track days this year on these P51 wheels.

That's awesome. You guys are running the same set up I'm about to make.

I've been a little torn between going 315 or 325 in the back. Have you & your friend compared set ups? Is there much of a difference?
Also did you notice a difference in acceleration and braking with the light weight rims?

We are often going to track days together and we are running very similar times when we are on the P51/ MSC's. Last Sunday we were running in the middle 1.15's on the NJMP Lightning track. Just as a comparison, with the OEM wheels and MSS's, I was not able to go lower than 1.18 @ Lightning NASA track day in May. I have to admit that I still need to improve a lot and it was my first time @ the Lightning track in May. We both have the Ford Performance springs and sway bars set for the GT350 installed.NJMP Lightning 08 29 18.jpg

Thanks for the pictures. I just received a set of FP springs, sway bars & Vorshlag camber plates. The tires, & rims are my next move. I was wondering if the 325's would stick out too far but, after seeing your picture it looks like they fit good.

Forgot to mention that I do have the Vorshlag camber plates installed which allows for more camber which you will need with the MSC2's ! Two track days and they look already like slicks...hopefully I can get a 3rd out of them. Agree they don't stick out, I find it hard to see the difference between 315 & 325. But I will probably go to a square 305 or 315 set up if I renew my Michelins SC2's.

If you are going to track the beast would sure suggest you look into Apex , as they clear the calipers very well and you won't have issues with rocks and other debris getting caught between said and the inner rim barrel. Square is the way to go as that way you can switch these babies around , though you will need a spacer up front. Michelins Cups are pretty decent , but for more speed , since you have the second set, get Hoosier R7s ( imho ) , in 315s.

Have you used the Hoosiers? Your right about not needing a street legal tire but I don't think I can fit a 315 up front?

I ending up going with the PROJECT 6GR TEN GLOSS BLACK FINISH R-SPEC GT350/GT350R. It came down to these and the P51's. I chose the 6GR TEN because they have more brake clearance, second lightest rims, and they're local.

I'm not sure which tires yet. Leaning towards the MSC2's but with petstang only getting 2 or 3 track days, I might give the Goodyear's a shot. They're about $300 less per set.

Petstang, you mentioned you'd probably go 305/315 next time. Is it solely because there's not enough gain to warrant the extra money?
