In this good Economy my millenial A/C has quit its job...14 GT

2014 GT TP with 44k miles

A/C started blowing hot air. No bad fuses, no bad relay's. I did put a gauge on the Low side port to see if it was low on R134A...it was not.

I spun the compressor clutch by hand, it does not spin very freely, and my hand was covered in a fine black grease or oil?

With the A/c off and the engine running the clutch sits still and the pulley rotates with the belt. When I turn the A/C on Max A/C and Max fan, the clutch still does not move, but the car kicks up the idle like it engaged the A/C, and the low speed cooling fan comes on.

Does this sound like I need a new A/C compressor?

I have never had a car with A/C issues, so I am going off what little info I could find on this subject that is relevant to the 11-14 S197 mustangs.

Thank you.

Exact same thing happened to me last year at 41,000 miles on my 2011 GT. The compressor was toast and you could see what looked like melted plastic on it. I ended up replacing the compressor along with the accumulator, expansion valve, and hoses while I was in there. If you're going to replace the parts with OEM Ford parts I've got P/Ns for you:
Accumulator: AR3Z-19C836-A
Expansion valve: DR3Z-19849-A
Compressor Assembly: BR3Z-19703-B
AC Hoses: CR3Z-19972-B

thanks for the part numbers!

My whole system is in good shape, so I may just replace the compressor as well as the switch for good measure. If I can fix the A/C for under $400, and get another 40k miles out of it id be happy. The next time the A/C dies in this car I am stripping the entire A/C system out of the car. That will be the start of it becoming less of a daily driver, and more of a "track car".

Anyone else have any input or ideas?

My car has under 16k miles and the A/C quit the first of Summer. I didn't many chances to take it out since it isn't my DD.
Friday I take it to the shop and the A/C still blows hot. After lunch I call them and it's working. I think the vales in the compressor got stuck from sitting up.
It's back to blowing cold.

One went out at around 40K. The very front part of the compressor shears off. If you didn’t know what you were looking at you couldn’t tell. Everything was still in place and it acted as if it worked normal. Only blew hot air though. I had that fine black grease on mine as well. Had to replace the compressor unit and everything was fine.

This is what ill end up doing. Just put in a new compressor and be done for a little while with the A/C drama.

Cut the A/C belt when i got home today. No need to have the engine keep spinning the useless compressor.

New compressor is ordered, and i have the ford A/C idler pulley/tensioner and belt setup already.
