G-Loc vs Pagid vs Raybestos

Hey all,

I've come to the conclusion that I need to upgrade from the stock brake pads on the track. I'm primarily taking the car to Road Atlanta, and I haven't had any issues with the stock pads, but they're only lasting for about 2.5 HPDE days. Also, with the addition of MPSC2 tires on my most recent day, I noticed the pads were working even harder, so that may result in only 2 HPDE days on them. I've researched the forum and came up with the three brands listed below. I've put some notes down based on my research. Any insight would be much appreciated, especially from those of you with experience with all of these. Also would like to mention that I already have SS brake lines and run Castrol SRF. I'm not really looking for the best value, but really just looking to see what you guys think is the best option for improved stopping and increased life. I put a lot of value on brakes working properly and don't want to sacrifice that to save a little $. That being said, I feel like any of these options would not be a compromise. Might also be worth mentioning that I won't be switching to slicks anytime soon.

G-Loc - I've used these before on another car with good results. I'm leaning towards these again. Most likely the R16front/R12rear (I had the R12/R10 on my 2015 GT). I feel like these should be good for 5-6 days with an obvious improvement in stopping power.

Pagid RS29 - The consensus seems to be that people like these for their improved stopping over stock pads and their ability to last many track days. My understanding is somewhere in the range of 8-9 days.

Raybestos ST43 - Improved stopping power, less rotor wear, improved pad life over stock. How many days?

ST43s last forever and have cold bite. I run about eight track days per season and will get two seasons out of a set. I was getting two days out of OEM pads. They’re also very streetable because they have cold bite. I cryo’d my OEM rotors, and with cryo they make no noise.

I have never run G-Locs, but if I had to compare their characteristics to another pad I’d say they’re close to a Hawk DTC 60.

Several friends of mine decided ST43's were the way to go after I was on the throttle a hundred feet past where they were hitting the brakes at the LVMS road course.

Where can you buy Raybestos ST43 brake pads? Even their own website doesn't mention them, they talk about racing brake pads but no place to find anything out about their racing pads that I could see. Google was strangely of no help also.

I'm tempted to order those. Hoping to hear a few more responses before making the decision.

I am running OEM pads on the rear with ST 43’s on the front. It works great for me. And yes, Porterfield sells these pads.

Gloc won’t last if you’re fast.

Seems the st43 is popular here, and I’m a fan of the ferodo pads, dsuno or ds1.11.

I’ll be dumping stock for the dsuno next year. I had the ds1.11 on my gt and they were in a different league to the gloc r16 I had.

Typically, you want a less aggressive pad in the rear than what your running in the front. Are your stock rear pads wearing at the same rate as your fronts? They shouldn't, unless you're running with your AdvanceTrac in full on mode.

I'll have to check the wear on front and rear. My last track day I was running new stock pads on front and rear. Ran the car in track mode, so I'm assuming most of the AdvanceTrac was disabled. I looked at the fronts and they seemed about half worn. Never checked the rears.

I haven't looked in to how much room there is on the GT350 caliper. I have titanium shims now, but Porterfield will make the pads thicker than stock if you ask. It's quite possible you can add more material. I did this on my vintage Mustang racecar.

With fresh pads and rotor I don’t think there is much extra room for a thicker pad. I swap out to carbotech which are the same thing as running G-Loc for track duty only. They wear much better given their harder compound designed for higher temps.

You would be surprised how much room there is on certain caliper combinations. I even cut off the dust seal grooves on brake pistons to allow for more pad thickness and thicker rotors.

You do have to make sure that you have enough travel on the seal area of the piston so you don't pop a piston out if you go down to the backing plates.

One added benefit with the Pagid's is they didn't make any noise on the street in either by Boss 302 or GT350. So if you're lazy like me and don't like swapping pads back n fourth between track days it's something to consider.

I ended up ordering the ST 43 for the fronts and the rear after speaking to Porterfield on the phone. It sounded like a good fit. They also told me that the pads had a little more temp range than their own brand and would last slightly longer. I won't be headed to the track until February, but will be sure to post my feedback on them.
Curious if I should continue running the stock rotors until they're worn out, or just switch to the giro disc now.
