19x11 +50 with 285/35 Square: What Size Front Spacer?

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

I posted on the FB group but got a wide range of answers. I wanted to dig alittle deeper.

Boss 302
-AST4150's and Vorshlag Camber Plates
-Wheels SVE 19x11 +50 square with 285/35/19 RE71R

So i was going off of Apex's wheel fitment guide below. It "looks" like may not need any more then a 6-8mm spacer, maybe even less.

Front & Rear: 19x11” ET52 with 305/30-19 tires
  • Popular fitment.
  • Requires at least -3 degrees of front camber.
  • Approximately 25mm front spacers required with most suspensions. Aftermarket suspensions with offset struts can reduce spacer thickness. See below.
  • 295/30-19 or 295/35-19 tires can also be used with at least -2.5 degrees of front camber and at least 20mm spacers up front to clear most suspensions. Aftermarket suspensions with offset struts can reduce spacer thickness. See below.

1)I will be running 285's, should provide more clearance unless the rim is making contact
2)I have AST's which should provide more inboard clearance.
3)The SVE's are +50's and have 2mm more inboard clearance then the Apex's mentioned.

Could i please get some constructive input and/or experiences shared to help prove or disprove my theory?

Pretty sure you will need at least a 15mm to avoid rim contact. With 305's you would need at least 20mm looking at the cars in our club with the sve wheels.

My estimate/guess is you need +16mm just to clear the rim.

2mm less offset changes the spacer needed by exactly that much. The camber changes only give you clearance on the outer side for the tire to fender so you don't poke or rub.

So unless your strut flanges are modified, or you use camber bolts/slugs too, there's no way 6-8mm will be enough.

Apex 11 x 18 et52 wheels with 15mm spacer and stock style struts: 1mm clearance to rim (see photo). I went with a 20mm spacer for 6mm clearance to strut.

IMO, a 15mm spacer should work great for your application with the offset coilovers and 285s provided the ASTs gain you at least 5mm inboard clearance.

Using the APEX guide but not APEX wheels?...

I kid ;)

Do we know the AST coilover body provides more room than the factory damper does? To be honest I didn't consider them much when I put the guide together because they're near obsolete to come by a new set.

If you're going to put a 285/35 on that wheel, the wheel itself will contact the strut before the tire does. If the AST does not add extra room, plan on a 20mm spacer. You'll really just have to find out if that coilover does in fact add extra spacer and do some math from there.

bahaha, good sense of humor. :)

Sorry a barely used set of wheels and tires popped up local for a good deal. Nothing against apex wheels :)

So, i was hoping to avoid longer studs but thats not in the cards. Id like to do just the 1/2 longer ARP studs for purely aesthetic reasons, this car is a street car first and a fun track toy second.

So looks like ill need convert to 15 front hubs. Does the attached parts list look sufficient for my needs? Anything else i should consider?

Ill order the attached parts list and both a 15 and 20mm front spacer and return which ever one i dont need.

Also, my street wheels are 18x10 BBS. Currently running the Vorshlag suggested lug nuts, what nuts should i run on the BBS's with the new front studs? Will the ones selected be sufficient?

Haha, all good! I would recommend just purchasing OEM hubs, they're like $50 a piece (plus the ones you have in your cart say SN-95). You should be able to buy the whole setup from OP Mustang for what it's worth with studs already installed.

Lug nut wise I've heard of some QC issues with the Dorman lugs lately. I don't know if the SVE wheels need a slimmer profile lug nut like most aftermarket wheels or if they have the larger openings like our wheels and OEM's do. If they don't have the bigger opening, a 21mm hex will be a tight fit.

Its a shame you guys dont sell this stuff, if im not buying wheels i would need to buy necessary supporting hardware....

Anyways, any input on BBS appropriate lug with the updated studs?

We carry both lengths of the M14 studs: https://www.apexraceparts.com/shop-by-vehicle/ford/s550-mustang/arp-m14x1-5mm-s550-stud-kit.html

These look to be a pretty good option: https://www.ravspec.com/shop/monster-m14x1-5-or-12-thread-open-end-extended-lugs-kit

You honestly could use the above lug nut in 1/2x20 with the S197 3" front studs and that should cover up any portion that sticks out past the wheel.
