Good compromise setup that'll do the job on a track day...?

"Good compromise for track day setup."

This is the age old conundrum we all have to contend with. The issue is, the more you track, the quicker you get, the more upgrades/mods you need to do to your car in order to make it even quicker, more reliable, and safer (because these three are tightly linked). You can easily get to the point where essentially you have a pure race car that is no longer streetable. And maybe that's okay, maybe not, but it's a slippery slope for sure.

How are the R4 pads on the street?
I'm using R4S and like them but always heard they will crumble
if they get to hot.
I don't street drive on them too much, but they were far less noisy and dusty than the Carbotech XP12's I've also ran while on the street and had equal braking performance on track. Usually would run them from April - September while doing track days so I didn't need to swap back and forth a bunch, but pulled them when I was done for the season.

Never an issue with the Porterfields crumbling. I've since made the jump up to Raybestos ST-47 and it's a noticeable improvement on track with the slicks on, but obviously worse on the street. I actually gave the old R4's to a friend who's using them in his dual purpose car currently and loves them. They work great with 200tw tires.

Cory,
what do like about the Bridgestone S007A's? I'm in a similar situation where I'm looking for a tire that can perform on the track and be used on the street. I'm running 19x10 and 19x9.5.

I like that Bridgestone claims them to be a successor to the RE-11, which was the best dual purpose tire out when it was produced. Nothing had the balance of grip, longevity, and ability to make it home if the skies opened up on you like the RE-11 did. The Hankook RS4 is close, but wears slightly faster. The RE-11s were also wonderfully communicative on track.

ou should be good to go now. What clutch did you go with?

I got an Exedy Hyper Single and couldn't be happier. Engages a bit higher than I like but it works.

Personally, I don't have a problem with the MT-82.

I started track work with a Honda CRX Si and was spoiled with an absolute gem of a transmission. I had owned several Mustangs then replaced the Honda with a 4th gen Camaro and the venerable T-5. That was such an easy box to shift. The MT-82 I just find to be too stiff, the pattern too narrow and precise and of course, the remote shifter and all those issues. It works but it's certainly not ideal.

FWIW, the pattern and the gates depend on the shifter installed. Even for the OEM units. My'12 Boss is very different from my GT and other '13 Bosses that I have driven.
