I am not really that concerned and frankly wonder if Ford listed this as being governed at 180mph , because it might sound better , marketing wise, than if it is drag limited to, say, 182mph? We , as a group, probably should be less concerned than those more into straight line gymnastics , because the GT 500 was a reversal of course to many, with track prowess more important than 1/4 mile times. The Viper ACR Extreme set a new record at Laguna Seca that took a half million dollar car to break, but it keyed on downforce, with it's top speed drag limited around 178. The GT 500 has the most serious downforce of any Mustang ever built and logically that will affect top end. I am confident when the track tires come out , no one at TMO will give a squat that 180mph seems to be the end of the speedometer run? Heck, doubt there is a track in the US it could achieve that at anyway?

Another big discussion out there on aero, drag, cooling, etc. and this will likely become a topic of conversation for months now. Folks want to always see magic numbers in their minds, regardless if it makes a real difference , and there are many track cars that will not reach 200 mph, but they do their talking on the track, so anticipate no calming down of the uninformed until we see some killer times at VIR, Laguna Seca, Nurburgring, etc.

Rumors are there have been some aerodynamic changes from first announcements and I guess I am just optimistic there were reasons for track prowess. This would affect top speed , but there could be other reasons besides drag if high speed also changes other air flow concerns. The fun part is that the Managing Engineer for Motorsports will be at the Mustang Roundup in Hastings , and just have a sneaky suspicion we will be able to ask him all kinds of questions during the Ford Tech Talk , he and other Ford Engineers present to participants every year!

I thought this new GT500 was going more at the drag crowd rather than track guys anyways.

155 down around my place is just about all I can handle - anything above that they'll start throwing radar at me.

There are some Engineers who strongly state this is not your Father's DragStrip 500, and reports are the circuit times will shock GM --- and they don't mean General Mgrs., ha.

DEAR FORD PERFORMANCE... (I hope you're reading this)

I would like for you to show me and my TMO friends and family how capable the new GT500 is on either Laguna Seca or Sonoma Raceway. If you want to show both track and drag capabilities then Sonoma would work best for us in the Northern part of CA.

Kindest regards.

I realize I have only mentioned the rumor of a GT 500 at Hastings a few hundred times, but who really knows , it is just a rumor ------ of course the rumors of a GT350R ( 3 were there ) showing up in 2015 were real, and the rumor of a Ford GT in 2017 was real , so, who knows, ha,ha!!!!

And the rumor that Voodoo Boss is coming to the event , well...................that has proven to be a true statement.

Wow, Voodoo Boss at the same track event as a GT 500 , incredible -- whoops, the GT 500 is just a rumor, my bad!
