Yes, the voltage regulator is an internal part of the alternator, and I agree with you, as high RPM's and heat are tough on regulators.

I’ve got the battery light and check charging system.
PO626 code.
Scanner diagnostic said regulator high voltage.
The Pid showed a fault.
Changed the alternator for a brand new OEM and still have the battery light on and off.
Anyone have this?

I never threw a code, but had the battery light and check charging system message. Swapped alternator and have been good since.

I'm still having intermittent check charging system messages but only on track or as soon as I pit.
Changed the alternator last spring and was good until fall at WG,message code at pit in on the last session.
Seems it has to be heat related somehow.

Check the wiring at the plug. I had 1 of the 3 wire broke right at the connector.
Car was throwing P0625 code when it was happening.
Soldered a pigtail found at AutoZone, don't remember the part number, and it's been fine since then
