S197 3V Another 2005 Mustang GT build Build Thread Profile - S197 Mustangs

I picked up a 2005 Mustang GT last November after running a 2001 Bullitt for mostly autocross over the last few of years. I went a bit "overboard" with the bullitt pouring tons of money trying to chase something that was realistically out of reach and decided to get rid of it in favor of a tasteful fun weekend track car.

I just finished the car a couple of weeks ago and have two autocross days and one trip up to streets of willow. I am going into it with trying to learn as much as possible about the car before trying to add any power adders to it.

Any insight to the direction im going so far is welcomed as I am currently looking to go another route for rear pads. The power stops work well but dust horribly.

The car will be 80 percent autocross with 3-4 track days mixed in a year. I was looking at either the performance friction Z pad or G Loc R8's.

Been looking forward to this thread, love it! I have a soft spot for windveil blue because it's the first color I saw when the "new" retro Mustangs were showing up on dealer lots. I was in high school and I remember giving it a hug. Obsessed with Mustangs ever since.

Take up the invite from VoodooBoss if you can, as there is nothing better than meeting other Pony Pilots in your area and tracking together. You will notice there is a pretty substantial group in the Golden State and really nice to have Ford Friends at an event. We had 11 TMO members at the Mustang Roundup last year and am sure we will eclipse that this year! Since many of the events around the Country are populated with all kinds of Trackrats, finding a Blue Oval buddy at the road course gives you backup, helps you get tips on what works the best on your car, assists with track orientation, etc.

...... and if you are Senile Stang Driver , someone like Tymeslayer might save your ass and have an extra set of lug nuts when you strip one. Pays to have friends and it pays to be younger too, as ole Senile Stang Driver found a padded envelope with 5 lug nuts ( in the trailer) when he arrived back home. Heh, since Tyme is on TMO he was polite enough to only make fun of me a couple of times, isn't friendship beautiful?

Very nice. Come on up to Sonoma on July 3rd and join us. It's usually much cooler there than the inland tracks in CA.

Thanks I have been to that track as a spectator multiple times and hope to make it up there soon. I have a track day scheduled for the same weekend at buttonwillow but will make it a point to head up there and run with you guys real soon.

Thanks I have visited your build thread multiple times for advice and ideas. I just picked up the same track spec vent kit you have along with a carbon fiber hood and plan on tackling that install in the near future.

My first track was Streets of Willow, it's a fun one. I was stationed at Edwards for a while. Your list looks pretty good already for learning on. I'd just add some Dot 4 brake fluid if you haven't already. What else do you think needs improvement? Anything you don't particularly like about how it behaves?

Hopefully we will have more folks running NASA and SCCA find this site, as tons of 3Vs are running in American Iron and American Sedan. Some of the folks I know who run them , have plenty of data that translates over to all Stangs. Need to get my fabricator to pop in occasionally, since he won 11 out of 14 races in American Sedan when he was running -- figure that is a fairly decent record, ha,ha.

I figured make a few updates as the project has been ongoing. I added a maximum motorsports roll bar, Anderson composite carbon fiber hold with track spec vents and Enkei PF01’s 18x10.5 with the cortex custom rear offset. A new baby put the project on hold for a few months but I’m happy to be back in the driver seat with full slate of autocross/track events slated for 2020.

marginal. There is some loss off the nose but if you include removing the windshield water container I’d say it’s around 20 pounds.

I did more so I could keep the oem hood intact should I try to sell it down the road.

Did you happen to get a weight on the stock hood and the new one?

Good to know. I figured there wasn't significant weight advantages but it's good to know that there's an alternative to a new aluminum OEM hood since they're getting harder to find.

Congrats on the new addition to the team!

I competed at the optima ultimate street car Las Vegas round last weekend and had a great time. It was definitely a knife to a gun fight with a pretty much stock 3v but my only purpose was to run a faster time than my old bullitt that had a built motor. I beat my personal best at the track by 3 seconds and had fun doing it.

To keep up with social distancing and lack of track days, I sent my car out to get some baseline dyno numbers with an air raid intake, Hooker shorty headers, Borla car back and a Lito tune. I was surprised with the numbers and would be happy to get another 25hp to have fun with for the time being until the supercharger goes on.

Not sure if there is anything else I can do (thats not long tubes or cams) that I can squeeze out a few more HP.

this series definitely brings out the monied builds and talented drivers! are you going to WSIR this weekend? i was hoping to have more than just LVMS under my belt, but just happy to be racing again at this point!! think i'm gonna regret pulling the A/C though, triple digit temps in the forecast mean this fair weathered driver from the north is gonna suffer :(
