Great racing.

But I remember the days when Mulsanne Straight was a true straight away. Then in 1988 the fastest speed was recorded at just over 251MPH, breaking the 400km/h mark at 405km/h. So for Driver safety chicanes were installed in 1990.

Even with the chicanes new lap time records were set. Current record holder: The average speed of the fastest lap in the history of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, recorded in 2017 by Kamui Kobayashi in the Toyota TS050 Hybrid during qualifying. He completed the 13.629-km lap in 3:14.791.

Amazing race & thank you to Dave W for posting live in car links.

As fast as the GT40s were, it was the MK4s that really hauled the mail down the Mulsanne straight. Funny how Goodyear could build a bias ply tire with 1960s technology that would run up to 225 (and maybe more, their land speed record tires went over 500) and one of the reasons the organizers gave for creating the imasculated Mulsanne straight was tire technology couldn't keep up with the speeds.

Since Dunlop has been a subsidiary of Goodyear for a couple decades, it's really not so much different from the past years. Except for the blimp.

And nice to see they didn't rename the bridge.

Finally got moved into my place in Germany. Less than a 7 hour drive away and I was stuck watching it on TV like everyone else. Maybe next year... It was cool to watch though, with the same day/night cycle in the same time zone. That was new.

Thought rebellion was going to have an internal rebellion there for a minute...

From sportscar365.com:
Romain Dumas was keeping Gustavo Menezes at bay in a battle for second place between the two Rebellion R13 Gibsons with hours remaining in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Menezes, driving the No. 1 Rebellion got to within a second of Dumas in the sister No. 3 car before the Frenchman pittted just before the 22-hour mark was met.

The Rebellions switched positions in the 19th hour when Senna brought the No. 1 car in for a pit garage visit so the team could change the front end, costing around five minutes.

This put the car driven by Menezes, Senna and Norman Nato a further lap behind the leading No. 8 Toyota TS050 Hybrid and also vaulted Dumas up to seconds place after the car he shares with Louis Deletraz and Nathanael Berthon ran a lap down in the night.

Menezes’ stop came during a Slow Zone period which softened the blow slightly, but the American still had just under a minute to make up to Dumas.

The gap was reduced both on track and in the pits, with Menezes’ quick pace supported by a slow 20th-hour pit call for Dumas that cost the No. 1 car around 13 seconds.

Menezes was under 10 seconds behind his teammate in the early stages of Hour 21 and with three hours to go was right on the tail.

What this didn't capture was Menezes being told to not pass Dumas over the radio, even though he was on his tail after closing a large gap. Engineers were concerned about temps on the #1 car and wanted no contest with their #3 car, who was running 2nd. Menezes responded that he was not pushing the car too hard, but that Dumas was running slow and making many mistakes. There was some back and forth over the radio, but Menezes back off. They pitted Dumas shortly after...which had some problems...and they ended up behind the #1 car...which left Dumas pretty upset.

Was going back and forth, the Le Tour Du France Time Trial on Saturday was probably the most dramatic one I have ever watched. Interesting to go back and forth between the two wheel and four wheel racing this past Saturday and Sunday.

Have to admit I enjoy the commentators more when broadcast on the US Channels , as it seemed pretty lackluster most of the time with many just filling in airspace, imho. Missed seeing the Ford GTs and yes , even the Corvettes, running the event this year!

Go to FIA for 2020 Le Mans LM GTE Pro results. Click on the car emoji for WeatherTech Racing & the above shows up. Yet I see on the inner-webs that Corvette Racing made the decision to pull out of Le Mans 24 for 2020.

But according to FIA 2020 Le Mans 24 website it appears as finishing last in LM GTE Pro and 50th overall finishing 202 laps & Top speed of 211.

I thought a saw this yellow Stingray being passed but it got near zero camera time being last in class.

WeatherTech ran their Ferrari and there were no Corvettes there at all --- just check the 2020 Lemans Entry List and it will clarify. I was hoping Corvette would run , but they pulled out with advance notice. Was kind of fun to see the Aston Martins do so well as it portends a better balance among the makes than had been apparent over the past couple of years.
