Bob,

7% - That seems quite a bit better than my home county here in Colorado. Try 14.7% positivity. It will get much worse before it'll get better. But like like the government told Lone Watie in the Outlaw Josey Wales, I will endeavor to persevere.

Ct's covid testing positivity rate reached almost 7% yesterday....age group most responsible 20-29...back in the spring when rates were below 2% it was the 50-59 folks ...those young ones still think they're immune..they are in for a rude awakening.........................I don't wish nothing bad on anybody...but just use common sense when you are out there!!!

We don’t know what we don’t know. And people who think they have the clear and obvious solution don’t either.

Like I didn’t understand at the beginning that mask wearing could be so demonized for various reasons. I had to see for myself that people don’t like being told what to do. Stupid me.
The public wants "the answer" and they want it now, and they want it perfect the first time. In a situation where new information is coming in every week or month, it's really hard for public officials to maintain their credibility while updating ever-evolving guidance.

Masks are a great example. Early on, well-meaning scientists proved that only N95 masks actually protected people from infection - anything else just wasn't good enough. So, advice was "don't bother wearing masks". Follow-on research by other well-meaning scientists revealed that wearing a mask would reduce the likelihood of spreading the virus, even if it wasn't perfect. In other words, a mask wouldn't protect a person, but if everyone wore won, it would slow the spread of the infection. Latest research, as of yesterday (literally) is that if everyone wears a mask, infection rates drop by as much as 60%. The public reaction? We've all seen it - resentment, disbelief, generalized grumpiness and growing mistrust of the science and public officials who are doing the best they can with the information they've got. Sad really.

You guys in Florida did you ever shut down like we did in cali? It seems to me that Floridians would just say FU...and go fishing.

That’s a good narrative.

I’m still angry at the CDC for that early determination and recommendations that people shouldn’t bother and to ‘reserve’ the N95 for medical workers. Not that it would have fixed all the issues with those that refuse to wear one, but it clearly started the confusion.

If you are referring to a face mask..I keep a spare face mask above the visor in the truck
Then I don’t understand how you find yourself outside without one.

You ever have someone show you two pictures that are very much alike and they tax you to find the a minute difference between the two. Here's mine.

The CDC recommendations from last April:
Universal mask policies, social distancing, hand hygiene and social distancing could prevent future lockdowns.

And now President Elect Joe Biden's NEW plan of attack on Covid now that he's president:
Universal mask policies, social distancing, hand hygiene and social distancing could prevent future lockdowns.

The winner gets one genuine open end Ford Racing lug nut whenever I next see them.

You hit the space bar before typing Universal, 1/2 x 20 or 14mm, hmmmmmmmmm

Would have been interesting to see what would have happened if Don would have said, "Wear a mask, what have you got to lose."

Well, I can confirm that our local (government) coastal ferry company has a sense of humor.

The transportation regulator has mandated masks on public ferries, so they came up with a mandatory mask sign. A big one. And they're pasted to the walls all over the ships and they look like this:

The "anyone unaware" quote below the headline was from the Ferry Corp's official Twitter account in response to Twitter noise about the new mask design.

You guys in Florida did you ever shut down like we did in cali? It seems to me that Floridians would just say FU...and go fishing.

Pretty much, our governor said that we may go back into some restrictions but we won't be shutting the state down. I just left Cali, it was insane, $100.00 fine for not wearing a mask outside? there were people pumping gas with no one around for 20 yards and they were wearing masks!! California was a trip, they closed the restaurants indoors, so the poor working slobs at Chilli's put up a tent, in 48 degree weather, and were serving about 8 tables outdoors with everyone freezing their ***es off. when they could have just as easily opened 8 tables indoors, it would actually make the distance longer indoors between tables.
In Florida it goes by county, if you have a hot spot, they bump the mask and restrictions, if not they don't, but they still want social distancing whenever possible. If it's a private business, then you make your own rules, in St. Augustine as an example, you have to wear a mask in doors within the city limits. It's not the whole fascist wear a mask at all times wherever you go thing, it's flexible.. so let's go fishing, offshore is awesome right now.
Again, after wearing a mask at Laguna Seca , and the 6 hour flights there and back I ended up with a hell of a sinus infection... again. There has to be some flexibility, not the shotgun effect.
IMO most of this seems to be to protect everyone BUT the individual, in IMSA we had to do the COVID screening within 24 hours of getting to the track.. great questions like "do you have any joint or muscle pain" lol srsly? then you try to decide what your temperature is without a thermometer, then you submit it and they give you a QR code to get into the track.. EACH DAY, then they get your temp at the track when entering, then you wear a mask (or in my case a gaiter) and change it often because frankly, it gets pretty nasty after about 5 hours with all the sweat and snot running through it. Was it to protect us, or IMSA/track owners? so they could say "see look what we did we tried to be safe".?
and ... don't get me started about the airlines, preach social distancing at the airport, getting on board and deplaning, but pack you in like sardines while in flight.. lol

also, as a firefighter, I used to get the flu every year, from the time I was about 12 to when I was around 50, I'd be pooping and puking no matter what I did. I still get the shot, but probably because I'm more rural, and less exposed to sick people, I haven't had it (the flu) in awhile.. knock on wood.
Also there's this..

Thanks! I live in the people republic of kalifornia. I raced at Laguna with SCCA and those rules were the crazy county up there. I had to do all that noise too. I'm hoping biden shuts down the country or our crazy govenor shuts kali again. Then I got a great excuse to head to Fl for a month and go fishing! Florida fishing is the best. My guilty pleasure is sometimes getting to race SCCA homestead and Sebring back ot back weekends and stay in Florida and fish the week in between race weekends.
