I see you're running the Amsoil DCT in the gearbox, how is that going? I was trying to decide between that and the Motul DCT and eventually settled on the Motul, which meets the Ford spec for the MT-82. Just had a bad feeling about the local Amsoil dealer. Hoping that the Motul along with the trans cooler now installed will help the newly re - built with the Syncrotech kit MT-82 last longer and be more reliable.

I’ve used Amsoil DCT for 3 track days with no issues. Also I’ve had no issues with the differential overheating using Amsoil Severe Gear 75w110. That being said it’s only 3 events and they were all in cool temperatures. I order directly from Amsoil instead of an independent dealer. I’ve been really happy with their knowledge and customer service.
Good luck with your trans cooler. Also I’ve only heard good things about Motul.

Cheers,

Summer heat will make a difference in rear end temps, don't be surprised if you get axle overheats. I was running 75W-140 and still getting overheat warnings until I wrapped the exhaust for 2 feet on either side of the diff, haven't had an axle overheat since. I was truly surprised at how well that worked. Was using BG UltraGuard LS, I'm trying RedLine this year it's a little easier to get and hopefully will do the job, if not I'll go back to the BG.

Thank you for the advice on wrapping the exhaust! I’m planning to switch to Amsoil 75w140 for summer months.

Cheers

Just found this thread to see if anyone else has managed to overheat a diff even with 75w140. I was at Road Atlanta last weekend (hey neighbor!) with my PP2 and got it hot enough to trigger the warning message on both of my 25 min runs. It was around the 20 min mark that it rose over 270F. I have Motul 75w140 in it though admittedly it does have around 25k on it by now so I'm sure that didn't help things. New fluid is on the way but the idea of wrapping the exhaust is brilliant... curious if that solved OP's problem too, if you've had a chance to do it yet. I'd much rather do that than buy a separate cooler.

So I posted that I am trying redline this year, so far I am finding the diff is noisier especially on 90 degree corners at low speeds. No overheats so far though. I think I am going back to the BG product, very little if any noise with that. I equate noise with wear.

Hi Neighbor - I just missed you at Road Atlanta. I was there on 7/9 with Just Track It. I’m running AMSOIL 75w140, but I haven’t tried wrapping the exhaust yet. I got the diff caution message at about the :22 minute mark during one session. No issues the other sessions. This fluid weight definitely helps, but still triggers the caution light in certain situations (high outside temps, long session, running hard).

Cheers,

Did you use the NS oil or the oil with the friction modifier?
I'm running RL 75w110 right now (with friction modifier), and I don't notice any noise. I was planning on switching to 140 though...

I would run the heavier weight year round and frankly I would change whatever you are using after 3 weekends at the most. Folks will often change their engine oil after one or two track weekends, but the rear end often gets forgotten for long periods of time , yet it can undergo some major temp changes. 15 years ago I was racing Spec Miata with it's massive 116HP machines and rear ends were going out right and left. Many guys were losing more than one rear end during racing season. My son and I had the same rear end in our two cars for over 4 years before one went and the secret was we changed the rear end fluid after 1-2 race weekends. There were guys running the entire season before thinking to change and well --- many never made it that far. Simple maintenance and as valuable to view changing often as you would do with your engine oil, imho.

Good call, I think I will start off with changing it every other oil change, with my oil change intervals being 3-4 track days + a thousand or so street miles.

@Bill Pemberton , How often do suggest changing MT82 fluids? I'm running BG SynchroShift II, I was thinking probably twice a year, given that I am forecasting roughly 15 track days a year
