Buying used 200TW tires "with plenty of thread left" can mean I am buying tires that are cooked and not good for the track. Besides date codes and the history (reason why the seller is selling), is there a way to tell whether a tire is finished by inspecting it?
Example : I'm considering the SC2 in the picture below.

it would be nice if they provided something like this..

If the tire has any blue tint to it, I'd pass. Most race tires will have 1 or 2 heat cycles on them but they could be 40 minute heat cycles. The Michelins we ran at Road America had about 2 hours on them and they were toast.
Keep in mind if you pay 50% of the cost of a new tire, you are paying the same as a new tire, but you're getting the worst half of the tire.

This has to be the most ingenious tire concept I have ever heard. It’s no wonder you are a tire engineer.

I now have a new argument for new tires for my wife.

Where do I send the cold beer?

Does a street tire need anything more than tread on it to be "good?" Street tires are not dot-R or slicks and they do not have the best running on the 1st heat cycle like a race tire. A charactor or street tires is that they are mediocre from first heat cycle until the last.

Unfortunately, the guys going fast on street tires buy them and then shave off most of the rubber to prevent something called " tread squirm" I've never been rich enough to just hose away rubber, but shaving the tread does improve lap times. When you do that, they also have a sweet spot when new, but it's not as apparent as racing slicks.

Has a lot of rubber pick up, but I see nothing wrong with it. I guess we should wait for the "offical" tire guy to chime in.
Speaking of rubber pick up, should I scrape it or it doesn't matter? I only get it on fronts
