Well, I finally have an answer to what happened in my 2015 Mustang GT on the road course

I drove my 2015 Mustang GT at Carolina Motorsports Park in October 2020 and had a super weird issue where oil was coming through my JLT CAI and onto my suspension and then onto my driver side brakes, wheel and tire. This caused an unscheduled off track excursion that ended with my car against a tire wall and a broken knuckle on my left hand.

I have always wondered WTF happened, and today I found this YouTube video

Apparently there is a design flaw in the baffle of the driver's side valve cover that will allow oil into the PCV system under hard acceleration and hard right turns. CMP is 14 turns, 10 of which are right turns. Mystery solved!

So now at least I have an answer. The fix is to buy new valve covers and replace both sides, just in case. IMO the TSB does not go far enough.

In April of 2021 I traded my 2015 for a 2018 and turned it into my track car, so I won't have this problem, but just in case any of you have 2015-2017 GTs that you are tracking, I thought you might like to know about this problem before it bites you too.

GT350 cover fixed it for me, only needed it on the left side, it only was smoking and puking oil on rights.
A couple years ago when I was dealing with this I tried to get the GT350 part number and it was on backorder everywhere with no ETA. The GT500 kit M6067M52S was just coming out and I took a chance assuming it would have the same baffling as the GT350, it did.

I appreciate this post. I had read something about this issue previously so I had installed oil catch cans on both sides as a fail safe. I guess I finally reached the threshold for this to happen as about halfway through the day at VIR this past weekend the driver side catch can was nearly full.

Is this only an issue on the Gen2 coyote? And is the consensus still just get the GT500 valve covers? Nothing else needed?

Yes, only gen 2 coyotes are affected by this design flaw.

I built a 5 quart overflow tank and it overflowed in a 20 min race and sent me off track and through the dirt, thankfully there was no wall there.
GT500 valve covers solved the problem.

Well it sounds like you were lucky the 5 qt reservoir overflowed and you slipped off track without hurting the car. If that wouldn't of happened you may have run out of oil and lost the motor.

I hold 16 quarts so it was the dumping on the front tire that was the biggest problem.

16 quarts I guess you were okay. I was thinking 10 quarts and you lost over half. I wonder at what level of loss does it start wearing engine components?

As soon as it starts gulping air.

I understand that but I’m curious how much it can lose before that happens.
Depends on the system.
If all the oil is in the pan (w/no coolers/lines etc.) you can get away with less since the oil is right there in the pan and not pumped elsewhere.
Also it depends on the pan (stock, road race etc.) and weather you are coasting, cornering or accelerating at the time.
A good road race pan has trap doors and baffles that keep oil at the pickup instead of sloshing away, so its a huge advantage in more ways than one.
So, its hard to say exactly, but personally I wouldn't let it get 1 qt. low with a stock system. If you are losing oil top it off after every session and find out why.
If its going in the catch can or PCV a set of GT500 valve covers might be a good purchase.
