I have been looking at getting Tig myself, with zero welding skills i thought i would get one and watch lots of Youtube vids to start with and then practice. Hopefully i will become a master at it and do some projects on the car.
I have been also toying with the idea of the trailer and have been looking at Futura lowering trailer but decided to out do it and get this Rolls Royce of a trailers instead, 8 weeks to build it and almost double the price of Futura... I guess it's good not to have kids ;) :p

TIG: do it it’s so much fun (and challenging) and the uses are endless.

trailer: holy crap that’s awesome! Show us some more pics when you get it! Futura was top of my list too, but that Nevco looks real nice.

just the hacked up stock one pictured above.
I ordered an aftermarket standalone fan from Summit. Hopefully it won't be a massive job to install it, I may be underestimating it but on the surface it looks fairly straightforward for both mounting and wiring.
I've run out of stuff that I wanted to do on the car so in the interest of change for the sake of change I'm heading down this road.

A friend of mine was credited with making one of the reasonable tilt down trailers close to 25 years ago, and they are a must for those of us with lowered cars or humongous front splitters, ha. Good choice and they pull nice and easy too. What is your tow vehicle down under, my friend?
Hey Bill,
this trailer uses hydraulic rams at each corner to raise and lower the trailer almost flat to the floor unlike the futura trailer that uses winch system to pull on the cable to raise and lower the trailer.
The tow vehicle is the mighty Landcruiser which runs a 4.5l twin turbo V8 diesel, it has great pulling power and reliable.

Beautiful dogs!
I had a European GSD of east german/czech lineage. Unbelievable animals, athletic and eager to please, loyal, faithful, protective, very intelligent, good with cats and family, an ideal companion/working animal. She was a bundle of energy, luckily at the time I had 100 acres of land with lots of bush and she got a ton of exercise, which she needed daily. She always needed to have a job.
She was a huge part of my family and life and even though she's been gone for 11 years I still miss her every day.....Enjoy them!

Given my distaste for replacing transmissions I put together a trans cooler to hopefully avoid killing this one. Took longer than I’d hoped but pleased with the final result.

Setrab series 1 fan pack, Marco UP3 pump and 8an lines with a filter and temp port. Time will tell but I’m really glad I found this pump. It’s basically the same price as a tilton continuous, considerably smaller, brass spur gears instead of a diaphragm, rated for the actual continuous temps these pumps see in this type of application, and 1/5 the noise of a Tilton. My diff pump is a tilton and so obnoxiously loud I may soon replace it with one of these.

Laguna this weekend to see how temps are with it.

quick vid comparing noise of each. First is tilton diff pump and second is Marco trans pump.

Scoots, nice cooler system. Do you have a parts list? Please😀

sure happy to help.

Pump: Marco UP3 12v gear oil pump
Cooler: Setrab Series 1 Fanpack (there's only one this size)
Filter: Sebrab Magnetic pump pre filter Inline 8an (can be disassembled and cleaned)
Hose: Whatever you like, I used Improved Racing 8an nylon with their fire sleeve. 13' of hose and 13' of fire sleeve is perfect with a foot or two left over.
Fittings:
  • Pump Fittings: 3/8BSP to 8an (Improved racing has two versions, you need part # BSP38AN8 to clear the pump head)
  • Trans Drain/Suck Port: Vibrant Racing M16 x 1.5 to 8an Banjo fitting
  • Trans Fill/Return Port: M16 x 1.5 straight adapter
  • Trans suck port hose end fittings: Banjo mentioned above > 8an 90* female union > filter mentioned above > 8an 90* swivel hose end
  • Cooler inlet hose end (from trans suck port): 8an straight hose end > improved 1/8 npt sensor port fitting # TR-08-02-A > 8an 90* female union > Setrab M22 x 8an cooler fitting
  • Cooler to pump hose: M22 x 8an setrab cooler fitting > 90* swivel 8an hose end > 90* swivel 8an hose end
  • Pump outlet to trans return: 120* swivel 8an hose end > 90* swivel 8an hose end

Did my first test drive last night and the pump is nearly silent even at idle. Its so nice. Since my dash switch lights up red when on (and my relay power is ignition hot) there's not much risk of leaving it on accidentally. Even so, this pump is rated to be run dry up to 20 minutes continuously. Made in Italy, super impressed so far.

One note about filter location: ideally I would not have the filter down under the car being more vulnerable to be ripped off in an off-track excursion but I decided to do it this way so I can easily disassemble the filter and clean it out with each gear oil change and not have to pull the lines apart up at the cooler and pump end (and spill a bunch of oil in the process).

Well it looks like i have my eyes set either on the Unimig one or the Cigweld tig. I think both would be great but one is got to be better than the other one. What are your thoughts guys.

First time back at Laguna in a while. Upgrades since last outing:

V8
305 square tires
Wing

so yeah basically new car. Had a blast. Trans cooler worked great oil never eclipsed 200*F. Not a high speed track though. I also wonder if the D4 trans generates less heat than original MT82’s since the ratios are higher.

I’m really glad all the time I’ve spent working on cooling, it’s so great to beat the crap out of the car for however long I want and not have to worry about temps one bit. Not having to check temps all the time frees up a lot of mental capacity for me to just focus on driving.

That PB was last lap of the last session so definitely learned a good bit throughout the day. Great way to end the day!

Not having to check temps all the time frees up a lot of mental capacity for me to just focus on driving.
This is so understated by many.
I've come to realize that any small amount of additional focus while on track can significantly help lap times. Whether it's checking temps or in my case, getting perfect down shifts, eliminating any small distractions helps so so much.
