What Happened to Pep Boys?

The local Pep Boys near Me in Bridgeport used to sell everything under the sun you could possibly want for your car.Last week, Hon went there to get windshield wipers for her Jukester and the store was just about empty and the only thing they were selling was tires and oil changes........Auto Zone ended up saving the day for her.

Not sure what happened but the Pep Boys near me had the service center and the parts store. The Pep Boys sign is not just on the service side and their is an Autozone sign at the parts store entrance.

They’ve exited the retail parts business and are only doing service and repairs now. Carl Icahn attempted to vertically integrate from manufacture (Federal Mogul) to parts (Pep Boys & Uniselect) to service (Pep Boys & others). Not a great strategy when the manufacturer’s other customers are competitors of your parts stores and service bays.

The ones around me (Philly area) still sell parts, oil, wax, etc. but the retail side is now under Auto Plus, another of Ichan's companies.

Auto Plus is what the Uni-Select stores were rebranded to when Icahn purchased their entire U.S. footprint. Uni-Select still operates in Canada.
