That Ass Hat ( Gavin Newsom ) even tried to create an Exit tax for companies and people to leave Ca. For those of you that dont live here remember Gavin Newsom's name , So when he runs (and he will) for president you can stop him . Jerry Brown and Gavin Newsom have turned beautiful Ca. into the socialist state it is now. Just my two cents

All but one year (1996, and then only the Assembly and the Governorship) of the last 32 years CA has been controlled by Dems. Eighteen of those years the Dems held the trifecta. I live here. You decide.

Why are you surprised? Chrome plating is heavy. Therefore, EVs don’t need it. So why not ban it?
Soon they will ban breathing and farting.
Don't you know... breathing and farting are responsible for over 200 trillion baby seal deaths each year. Breathing and farting are also racist, sexist, anti-gay, and basically support Hitler. They got to go!

(I hate CA politics, but this state does have some great race tracks. Who knows how long those will last though.)

A quote from one of the greatest movies of all time..
" What will that ***hole think of next?"

This has been banned around a lot of the country already. I was recently looking into refinishing some old wheels and was shocked to see that many of the local places here in Georgia would actually ship their wheels out to California and back to be chromed. With all of their other environmental concerns, I just assumed that this had been outlawed there already.

We used to send pieces out to California in the 80s because of the quality of work out there. We had local shops but none like California. Apparently we can no longer mine copper in the US as our fearless leader is in the process of banning that. A lot of this, chrome, nickel, copper tin etc won't be available for US manufacturers but you know who has it?
China.
Effectively destroying the US auto industry and its' ancillary industries.
This was 2022, the ban has since been declared.

While I disagree with a straight ban, they either need to ban the mining OR they need to strengthen the EPA's ability to proactively regulate the almost guaranteed results of the mining. The middle ground is where we need to be, but the govt has to have the power to do it since private industry will not.

Yes and no, all states have an EPA ( that I'm aware of) and it could be regulated at that level, but the feds like to jump the shark and issue blanket decrees, same with OSHA, same with a lot of law enforcement.
As an example, one of the sponsors on the Phoenix cars is in the business of cleaning up after fracking, when he is done, the water has to be essentially, potable, he charges millions for that and is beholden to both state and federal level EPAs.
My scorched earth policy, at least in regards to offshore drilling, is to auction out the lease, with the caveat, that if you screw it up, you are responsible for the cleanup and you forfeit the lease. Sadly, in the Gulf of Mexico, right now, there are Chinese offshore oil rigs operating within Cuba's territorial waters that have high angle drilling abilities and they have no oversight whatsoever.

wow I never really realized that chrome plating is so harmful for the environment. Polished stainless steel will be a good alternative for the majority of exterior accessories though.

I agree that polished SS would be really beautiful. However, there are far fewer people that would be willing to pay for it than there are those that are happy to have it done in countries (and perhaps by children) with little or no safety regulation. It would be VERY expensive to have SS trim on automobiles.

Ah!... thinking back to that gorgeous '55 Chrysler New Yorker that Dad had. Man! that thing had some really nice SS on it, and lots of it! No, they just don't build them like that anymore. Mostly because, very few would be able to afford one.
