I went for the CF. I've had an aluminum drive shaft sheer dead center. I also prefer the reduction in NVH when the application is other than dedicated track cars. I, at one time, preferred aluminum intakes to plastic when I first saw them on a 94 4.6!!
IIRC when installing the MGW there is a bushing that needs to be removed or the gears don't fully engage. Two things cause pop out, defective synchro or gears not fully engaged. From your description it sounds like it's not the synchro. Usually with a bad synchro when you decelerate in that gear...
