I've driven in VR for ~8 hours in one day before (team endurance race in iRacing) and besides being ridiculously sweaty, it worked well. Mine is adjusted fairly loose so it's not putting much pressure on my face or head.
I did a quick search and this place looks like half decent shot at trying out a VR simulator: Kaboom Virtual Reality ArcadeI find most sim racing stuff to be OK for me, but flight sims are a HARD pass. I get sick really quickly.
The "pro" equipment is very nice (though I'd buy a round wheel and not the formula style wheel they list) Even the enthusiast stuff on that link is really pretty good equipment. Pedals are a LOT more important the wheel, in my opinion.I'm cheap and I run an old G27 wheel, but I bought Fanatec...
FWIW there was another guy there at VIR with a GT350 (John Woolbright, active over on facebook) with Hoosier R7s and stock pads. I personally wouldn't take the risk, but besides short life span he reported no issues (they were easily lasting a weekend for him)I'm a strong believer in a bit of...
I'd imagine you'll be OK with the stock pads, but no worries about using the ST43s either as an intermediate driver on the right tires/temps. I drove to VIR on the ST43s with no issues. In the COLD temps I had at VIR (it snowed... a lot) at about 45 degrees peak temps they struggled to build...
@HardYakka I had zero issues driving to VIR with ~0 toe and the -1.8 camber that I have. I'm daily driving that alignment with zero issues. I did however cause issues for myself when I drove to NYST. I had 1/8" toe out and corded the inside shoulder.I can't speak for what will happen with more...
The ST43 pads aren't "compatible" with OEM material so I'd scrub the rotors or maybe buy a brake disc hone and spend a few minutes doing that but you'll need to be careful to do it evenly. I scrubbed the front rotors with one of those metal scrubby scotchbrite pads, then I drove the 8.5 hours to...
It's unfortunate that a few bad apples have kinda screwed the majority of the customer base over. You're right that it's industry wide, doesn't really make it excusable.
I used my shifteck mount a day or two after I finally received it. The seat jiggles quite a bit and my old GoPro has kind of poor image stabilization. I'd like to try the Virb inside the car instead, it's a lot more stable.
I'm looking at a Pcar because Ford is stuck in the 70s-80s with the ass-backwards mess. On top of that, my steering wheel got scuffed up. I've ordered and returned 4 or 5 replacement steering wheels now because every single one was put together improperly or damaged in shipping... WTF??? Ford's...
