I buy the 130lb lighter than the 'gt350 with track pack' (ie. add in the coolers...which is the fair comparison given that the R will, presumably, have them as standard).
But I don't see how it could be 500lb lighter than the GT...and, hence, the gt350 be 370lb lighter than the gt. If that were the case, they would have been trumpeting that from the rooftops when they intro'd the gt350.
it would be awesome if it were the case.

Exactly. There's gotta be a mistake in there.

No DSSV.

The electronic, adaptive MagneRide suspension goes to work under the GT350R, too, but gets new, track-oriented programming and is teamed with revised spring rates and anti-roll bars, a lower ride height, and unique alignment settings, as well as revised bushings, bump stops, and cross-axis ball joints.

Also:

An optional Electronics Package means buyers can get a GT350R with dual-zone A/C, touch-screen navigation, and a seven-speaker audio system, but while those people will have turned their GT350 into a slightly more livable commuter, a bunch of weight has been piled back into their track car.

The only thing I'd consider adding would be the stereo if it's going to double as a street car. That said, it's much cheaper and easier to have them delete the rear seat, nav/touchscreen panel, A/C and stereo at the factory, and add the stereo aftermarket if wanted bad enough.....but no 50 lb subwoofers in the trunk!

TBH it's a great way to make sure they are going to sell every single one produced, much like GM has allowed with the latest Z06 being offered in automatic and convertible versions.

Not everyone is a track dog

Yep, but I hope they make enough to satisfy both markets.........

This might sound absurd coming from this Ford fan... but I have to say thanks to GM for making the Z/28 otherwise a GT350R this *awesome* may have never happened. :)

So if the street car is now the 'R', what will the caged race cars be called?

My guess is E for the endurance version and S for the spec/sprint version.

The FR500's were S and C so I'll go with that.

At least GM on the Z/28 didn't charge extra for the AC. Unless you live in frigid country like ND or are going for full race car leaving out the AC is going to hurt resale value.

Car sounds like an awesome build though but very hardcore and I have a full track Civic Si so it looks like the GT350 with track pack is my choice for occasional track and fun street car. Of course this is pending Cloud9 and other early adopters doing the necessary debugging on the track. ;)

It is an awesome time to be a car guy isn't it. ;D

I thought 'C' was for the 5.0 Cammer engine? I guess maybe it'll be an 'S' then?
Could have been but it was also the car used for endurance racing in the CTSCC hence C still works. ;) So and S and C instead of S and R. It's just a guess on my part.

Yes it's a great time to be a car guy and the golden age of automobiles is now.

The IMSA version will probably be called the Ford Mustang GT Boss 302 R1 GT350RR based on how the 302R was officially labeled in that organization.

Seriously though, my guesses would be:

GT350RS
GT350R1
or simply "GT350R"

675
253
This new 350R . . . my God . . . it's AMAZING! How can I afford to keep my LS and buy one??? I have put too much blood, sweat, and tears into my LS and it's the funnest car I've ever driven but wow, just freaking wow.

Other than not being able to afford a 350R, my only issue with the 350R is the carbon fiber wheels. I know that Koenigsegg uses them on it's 280mph car but I have seen way too many shattered CF motorcycle wheels from landing wheelies or running over potholes and it gives me pause. I would imagine that Ford has done some mega testing on them to make sure they will be durable.

Anyway, thank goodness the 350/350R still have V8s and manual transmissions unlike the new Ford GT . . .

What a great day for Ford fans

If they had thrown in an AWD Focus RS, there would have been just about something for everyone (hoping they're saving it for later)

Still need the most important specs on the GT350 and GT350R to make a decision, pricing and availability
