Same here for 1st year. Now the conundrum, The new Cayman GT4, specced one for $90,350 with Sport Buckets, looks really good and would be a good replacement for my beloved 6GT3's but still want to see the 1st year teething pains for both the GT350 and GT4 before making a decision. Also $35k less for the GT350 is going to be a biggie and waiting until 2016 is going to be really painful as I don't have a lot of patience.

We think a lot alike. GT4 with boat load of GT3 parts and better handling at a huge discount to a GT3 is very tempting.

As a long time P-Car guy having owned 4 of 'em ( 3 911s and a 914) I, too, am looking forward to seeing what this new Cayman GT4 is like.

But gotta tell ya, for me it wouldn't be close: bang for the buck it'd be the GT350 hands down. You pay a huge premium for the right to park your butt in a new P-Car...they just keep getting more and more pricey for what you get, and I'm not sure it's worth buying new. Hard as it might be to wait, I'd rather let some middle-age dentist or Sil Valley techie suffer the initial depreciation curve.

Plus, given Porsche's epic engineering f-ups (can you say "M96") and subsequent denials over the years -- flat out unacceptable from any manufacturer, let alone one like Porsche -- I too would be very wary of a first year Cayman GT4. But these two cars are not going to give the same driving experience, anyway, so comes down to what exactly you're looking for in a high performance car.

p-car fan myself, particularly of the mid-engined variety. I've owned a boxster and a cayman and you have to drive one to understand...even in their historically-underpowered form. (in act, sometimes it was that lack of power that increased the fun factor)
The 6gt3 is an epic car...gt3's have gotten faster but not better, in my mind.
the cayman gt4 is the car I kept hoping they'd build...it's going to be insanely fun and fast. the price point has gotten a little out of hand, though.
I've always wanted a 'gt350'...always saw myself (in my mind's eye) tearing out of T4 at Laguna Seca in a white / blue stripes gt350. I live my (white) boss...but I've always dreamed of a gt350. And now that they're building the shelby that I want, I'm going that route. And since I've got a kid who's a total car / driving nut (and lusts after STi's), the fact that the focus rs is coming to fruition means that I can do a 'two-fer' an get a gt350 and focus rs (I've always wanted a pocket rocket too) for about the same money as the gt4.

Sounds like a solid plan. I like the Pocket Rocket idea, have a 2015 WRX as an AutoX car but personally would stay clear of the Focus RS until it gets some solid track reviews by people that push their cars. (looked at a Focus ST and talked to owners who tracked and the persistent overheating plus other issues turned me off)

As for the GT4 pricing as I specced it was $15k less than my new 6GT3 that I got in 2005, so the price to performance is good in my opinion. BUT the GT350 price is very compelling IF the new engine and the rest of the car is solid with minimal problems. I love me some Pony Cars but the 2012 Boss I had with the wiring harness electrical issues, (Lost way to much track time to limp mode issues) Lousy stock clutch (fixed that though) turned me off on buying 1st year models.

I have a friend who has the 12 cayman R which I drove once and was very fun. I am looking forward to comparing the GT4 and gt350....

Has anyone secured an allocation or put a deposit down on a GT350 yet? I'm sure glad I'm sitting the first year out. ::)
Yes and yes. I am hoping their 2016 allocation is an early build. Well, I'm mainly hoping it's delivered no later than February so I can have it ready for the 2016 season.

Cloud,

Did you just secure an allocation or did you manage to secure a build? Everyone else is still waiting for confirmation on timeframes (order/build/delivery). It sounds like you're ahead of the curve.

Just the allocation. Dealers get one per MY for registering for the program, training a salesperson and paying the $1,000 program fee. The balance of the allocations will be made using Share of Nation based on Mustang sales. They haven't announced when order banks will open or the build quarters for specific dealer allocations yet.

Im #8 at one dealer and waiting to hear from the manager at another, smaller dealership where supposedly I'll be #1. I'm gonna sit on these respective lists until (1) they say I have to have a deposit to keep my spot or (2) Pricing is announced

Hopefully this smaller dealership calls back monday and confirms I'm at the top spot. Also have feelers out at 2 other dealers who have been lax with responses.

And how much markup are they going to ask for? I'd have multiple dealers lined up if you want an early car.

I'll find out on Monday when the small dealership calls me back. That's the big question...:-(

I have a call into one dealer that does zero markup on all cars, even the specialty lines. They're speaking "later this year", which coincides with Rick's sentiments of October.

Spoke to the small dealer where I purchased my Boss from about the GT350. He stated that he had paid his fee to Ford to sell GT350's. He said that price and ordering will be available in the 2nd quarter of this year with delivery late fall of this year.

That's consistent with what I have been hearing and where I set my expectations as well. The curious part will be how they assign the allocations by build quarter depending on your specific dealer. It would be great to have it by the Mustang Roundup in September but that's pretty unlikely so am hoping to have it in time to install the roll bar before spring.
