This is disconcerting. :( I realize this is not a 5.0, but it is based on the same engine. I had an '11 5.0 and never burned a drop. After seeing this thread, I immediately went out to check my oil and sure 'nuff, 2 quarts low. I'm a bit new to owning these types of cars, so learning as I go here. I have had many new cars over the years and have never had any concern about checking my oil "often" when the car is new - hey, it's a new car, it shouldn't have an oil problem, right?

But, lesson learned - will be checking the oil on a weekly basis now, no matter if a car I own is 1 week or 10 years old.

I think the thing that bothers me about this is that we have no oil pressure gauge on a car that uses oil. That is odd. As well, there is nothing in the manual I can find that talks about this "feature" of the car, and I certainly got no warning of it from the dealer (not shocking, my dealer ain't so hot). What happens to the poor guy that damages the engine in his new car because he had no clue of this? Just troubling.

I am in the exact same boat as you. And my real concern right now is that I hope I am not that guy. Running 75% low on oil is not something I really want to brag about haha. But it is something that I wanted everyone to be made aware of so that it doesn't happen to anyone else.

No real issues here. I added 1/2 quart after each of my track days for one quart total in about 1,800 miles since my last oil change.

So you have had 2 track days in 1800 miles and have added 1qt total. I didn't have any track days and ended up burning through 2 quarts in 1500 miles. Awesome! ???

Yes, it is something to definitely stay on top of. I'm glad this post came up - big time! I drive my car sparingly and have not tracked it. Just never occurred to me that a brand new engine could be gulping oil like that - big lesson learned! Seems Ford would know this and maybe throw that info out there. Without this post, I'd probably still be driving in ignorance. :(

That story is definitely worrisome. 6 quarts low? Since a full change requires 8.5 quarts it makes me wonder if your dealer filled it up correctly when they changed it, or if they simply put in the recommended amount for a GT. I'm also very suspicious about the word that 1 quart every 1500 miles is normal. That just doesn't sound right for a new 5.0 that isn't even being tracked. If you still have problems in the spring, I'd take it to a different dealer for a second opinion. Good luck!

I have burned 1 qt in 2300 miles. Initial change around 1K. No track time on mine, hopefully next spring.

Have to wonder about the 6 qts low as well. Hard to imagine unless wasn't filled correctly or a leak not caught.
Motorcraft 5W-50 here as well. Local Ford dealer for 7.35/qt.

Oil changed by me at 2000 miles (down a quart then). One track day around 2500 miles, 3200 miles on her now. Down a quart (bottom of the hash marks).

My car went away for the winter, so I will definitely be checking it religiously in the spring. From there I will see what my car actually does in regards to oil usage.

Mine has 3000 miles on it. I just checked it and was shocked to see how low it was.

Glad this turned up on another forum so I could check it here.

Several people have "chimed" on the other forum saying it ain't that big of a deal but I disagree.

It isn't that big of a deal if your car isn't the one burning up the oil. Or if you knew about it to begin with so you knew to check it often to make sure that it was at an appropriate level.

With all the these reports of oil consumption I decided to go check the oil in the car. I normally only check while at the track....... I was 1/2 qt low...... This is with about 3 track days on the oil and a few hundred street miles.

Needless to say I will be checking the oil more often....

There seems to be a wide range of mileage vs. consumption on those who have responded to this thread.

I am not a professional mechanic, but it makes me wonder if this have something to do with how the motor was "broke in"?

I would hope not. I personally took it pretty easy on the engine for the first 500 miles. Don't know about you guys but I am sure I noticed that the engine output seemed to rise gradually as the miles increased. My assumption was that the engine management program was set up to increase engine output as the miles increased. Even with the slow start with the engine I saw 1 qt low after 2.5 track days and about 700 total (highway) miles on the car.

I've driven mine normal since new including bouncing off the rev limiter several times in the first 100 miles. I did not do any sustained high RPM runs (track conditions) until after 1,000 miles like the manual states and did not use the cruise control either.

I did the same and I've had no issues. I checked it a few times at the track and did my oil change right after my first event and just checked it now. I guess I'm 1 of the lucky 1's No oil consumption & No skip shift sweet!

I had to add a quart at about 600 miles. Street driving, no tracking, typically cruise around at 3000-4000, bounce off the red limiter when ever I can from 100 miles on. Just had first oil change at 1000.

Got my first oil change @4500 mile and it was a quart low. Also followed the break in outlined in the manual. I'll have to start keeping an eye on it come springtime after the beast awakens from it's winter hibernation. It's going to be a long 5 months. :(

I followed this break-in procedure for mine. Like 5 DOT 0, no sutained high RPM runs or cruise control, but did run it up to redline frequently and aggressively. I haven't had any noticeable oil usage since about 3k miles. I have about 6100 now and 1800 on the track.
