i've dragged race for 40 years, all 9 and 10 sec stuff. All power glide-slush box cars.I'm getting the itch to hit the track next spring.I've got all the goodies-1 pc. d.shaft, rca's,lca relocatin box,set pinion angle ect.I have the Mcleod RST clutch and was wondering with the stock Pirellis if it's okay to make some passes.I know Mcleod advises not too.I've done several impressive burnouts now,but i can"t help myself.i'm not going to change out the posi unit or get drag radials or slicks.Just wondering if anyone else uses this clutch at the drags.

McLeod will recommend the RXT for drag racing as well as road course work. Give them a call. I also believe @Shaun@AED likes the RXT for the 1/4 mile.

Bizzare.i would think there would be others to add to this thread.I guess it"s not used for even occasional blasts down the strip.I feel it bites awsome when going hard through the gears.I have it churp into 4th,which is impressive enough.

A chirp in 4th gear is impressive!

I've watched my 1/4 mile vids and have heard mine pull a hard chirp in 3rd gear, but never hear it when racing.

As far as the McLeod twin series clutch line, I'm not sure if either would be a choice for Drag racing, because of the strap design. A stand design might be better choice for hard launches. Give their tech line a call and ask. I wouldn't be surprised if they recommended one of their single plate designs.

Good luck and let me know what they recommend if you call.
Thanks,

There was a noticeable improvement in bite when I installed mine. I swear my 0-100 time improved with the new clutch.

I'm sure it did improve.

My point is ask the tech line if the RST is up to the Drag Racing hard launches, time after time. I'm not sure from reading their website. Best to call and check.

302 Hi Pro

I agree, probably not the best for drag, but you would think it should be up to some abuse.I would not go to a drag radial or slick. The rst seems to engage hard and quick under full power as I mentioned getting 4th gear chirps.Thats on Nitto's which are a harder tire.I have simulated full 1/4 mile runs on back smooth long roads. Its not a clutch that you can slip off the line either.Tried that and noticed that clutch smell.Too bad it's not a little like the rxt.I'd love to try slicks as my car has strong parts bolted on.The rxt is harsh for city everday driving from what I've read.

As stated in the m-82 Ben Calimer rebuild thread, unless its a typo, Ben states he uses the RST with slicks to make his record setting 10.80's runs.I posted a confirmation to Ben, but I guess he is too busy to respond.I may call or email direct to get a response.I have read on other sites that some are running them at the drags, and another"friend of a friend".killed his.I have not bothered contacting Mcleod
as I know what they will say.If Ben is indeed running one, thats good enough for me.
Again as I stated, I have no intention of running drag tires.
