Where's Wally

Dragged the car out of the trailer earlier this week, and started assessing what's good, and options -- much more to do. There's no question that the safety equipment saved me from injury, re Steve's post above. The one item I'd add to Steve's list is a Halo Race seat. My impact was in large part sideways and the combination of Hans and Halo limited sideways motion, however the seat mount bent laterally no doubt from my body/ head weight against the Halo seat.

Mid week I decided I needed to get back in the saddle asap, before doubts about hitting the track again started to grow, so I had 2 days of prepping the Boss -- I'm very fortunate to have that option -- and spent the day today at Grattan with 3 Balls Racing. Felt very strange having to shift at 7,400 and took the first session very steady getting re-acquainted with the car.

Ended up beating my best lap on this track by almost 1.5 seconds. The Boss definitely feels more like a Race Car, but I can't help wondering how much faster Wally would have been....

So great to hear you had a very good day. I thought about asking you how the day went so you saved me the trouble. That's fantastic that you set a new PB after last weekend. I feel much better already :D

Wow. Just further solidifies the fact that I'll never buy another non-Halo seat again. I see so many people in LeMons trying to get the cheapest seats possible, that's the wrong move.

I'm really glad that you had the proper safety equipment that prevented something really bad from happening. Congrats on getting right back up and out there.

Nick, very happy that you are safe and well. Do you have any plans of buying another GT350 /R?

Your incident literally made me feel sick and I feel terrible for your situation. Wally's a phenomenal car, but most importantly it's awesome you were ok and able to get back in the saddle. I commend you for getting back out there and working to put this behind you. Enjoy the Boss as you get Wally figured out.

Wow Nick, that is great to hear you are back on the track. That is a huge bonus of keeping your Boss. And clearly your head is back in the game as you set yet another PB! I am bummed I missed the event last weekend as that was my going to be my only RA event. Let me know if you find another RA weekend that you are considering.

Nick looks like you've still got it!

Glad you "got back on the horse" figuratively and literally. Do you think your time improvement in the B302 is due to increasing your mental limits for speed in the faster 350R?

I've been wondering the same thing. My B302 and R top speeds at "big" tracks (VIR, RA, The Glen) were very close (within tenths). The R made up all the time in the corners and transitions, with way more (apparent) grip. Maybe that experience has made me more comfortable pushing the limits in the Boss. The R builds confidence with great balance and sticks real well, but the Boss is actually more precise (mine is close to 302S specs for suspension).

I'm headed back to RA ??? on Friday -- will be interesting to see times there versus the R, and any improvement versus my previous B302 times.

Have fun! It's also another opportunity for you to blow away this lap time just like last week ;D

I very much doubt it -- yours was a fantastic lap for a B302. I did run a high 2:28 in the R, but no video, and with that, together with the wreck :( , it doesn't count so I didn't post in the Lap time thread.

That will be interesting to see how you do in the Boss given you ran 2:28 in the R. Let us know, and have the camera rolling ;D

Well no matter, you'll be flying like usual and most importantly getting back out there again. What group has thebtrack next weekend? Is it Nordstern PCA?

It's MVP -- 3 days. I can only do Friday, but a friend of mine is a member at Autobahn CC, so I'm running there Wednesday, and maybe Thursday am on the way to RA. My wife is traveling, so I get to spend more time back on the steed this week :)

I'm still curious to hear whatever thoughts you might have on what happened when you are ready.

I am located off interstate 39 mid way between RA and Autobahn if you need a shop between runs.
