Hey guys, out of curiosity. I ordered some front hubs with ARP studs. How do you keep the axle from turning to get the hub nut off? I can understand using an impact gun and that would work to get it off, but to put the torque necessary for the specs, you would have to keep the hub from spinning when you tighten it down, correct?

Non issue, just torque em down. They won't spin.

I trust you on this one, but how is that possible? When I undo my Lugnuts, the wheel turns. Nonetheless, I trust you and I will be installing them soon. If you can explain why it doesn't turn, you would satisfy my curiosity though.

I think I misunderstood you, I thought you meant the spindle nut.

Wait....are we talking about the spindle nut?

Yes. After removing the rotor, there is like a 36cMM nut you remove to change out the front hubs. Is that called the spindle nut? Then i can install he ones with ARP extended length studs. See black nut in below picture below...It would seem to me that when you go to tighten it, the whole assembly would rotate.

No it won't turn. The nut is on the spindle. The hub floats around the spindle on a bearing.

I can confirm this as I had no issue with torquing the spindle nut while replacing the front hub/stud assembly. Well, other than the fact I didn't have the right size socket and had to borrow one from the neighbor.

Antman450:

That was a very good question on torque spec of the spindle hub nut. Especially for us old timers who were used to having to properly adjust front wheel bearings.

The new hub assemblies are non serviceable with sealed bearing sets, they simply slide over the spindle and the washer nut torques down to a collar on the spindle.

Check YouTube for DIY vids and I think you'll find it an easy repair.

Keep us posted.

So, got pins pulled from wrist. Told the doctor I hate casts, she says everyone gets one, so we compromised with an adjustable exoskeleton cast. It got heated up and custom molded and you turn the dial to tighten it on so I can take it off if I want to. She trusts I won't do that. Only when I shower and stuff. She knows I've been hurt so often that I know what it takes to heal.

But I digress from this thread. I installed my hood latches and hood vents last weekend. Want to throw some pictures up and give some updates. Just got a new grill in yesterday. It's a high airflow seven bar billet grille. Haven't installed yet though. Which is the case with about everything I have for the car.

Nice job on the vents and that's a high tech looking wrist brace!

It's made by DJO. It's heated and moulded then ratchets on with synthetic laces. The doctor knew that if she put me in a hard cast that I would cut it off in a day. She also knows I've been injured enough to know to not take this off except when necessary. That's why she trusted me with it. Most patients, you wouldn't believe it, they like put on for five minutes and then don't use it and then wonder why they don't heal. Blows my mind.

Much hood pins, such vents!

I have to ask because now I feel inadequate, are there cases where hoods have failed while using two pins? Does four pins significantly increase protection or stability of the hood?

Though, you're not running the factory latch at all in the middle right? That'd probably make sense why the inner pins then?

Because 4 pins would be twice as good wouldn't they ;)

No latch. I think 4 is better and 2. Not sure how necessary. But think it looks cool. Plus gutted entire underside of hood. Got to 150 and hood never moved a millimeter.

Put in a BMR rad support, Mishimoto Radiator (I know people say they leak, but mine is fine and lined up perfectly). Time will tell, but lifetime warranty, so why not. Bled the coolant after complete flush. Went with two bottle water wetter and distilled water. Will post results after I box it in and test at the track. Left AC condenser in for now.

Brake ducts went in from Blowfish.

Ford racing hubs with ARP Studs. My right hub basically fell apart when i pulled it off. Car only has like 20K miles, so that was a surprise. Or maybe it is no big deal.

And also, there is a picture of the replacement front bumper bar. I made this one instead of buying the Ford Racing one. Tow ring and splitter support mounts still need to go in.

Finally, replaced my inner fender plastics with new ones. I painted them satin black first so they stay cleaner and don't fade. Took 10 minutes.
