Yep, #8 is what blew in my Boss motor but mine went BOOM.

That's one reason I am optimistic, No New Noises. Quiet and smooth running. My gut is telling me head gasket. We shall see.
Has anyone used the ARP head and stud kit? If the stock bolts are the issue, this should fix the problem.
Pistons, Rods, Rings, Moroso pan, Ford Oil pump, ARH headers and Boss pipe costs less than an Aluminator short block. If the block is good, I will likely freshen up the bottom end with near bullet proof internals, add upgraded valve springs and a tune. If I get 450RWHP after I will be tickled. Cobra Jet intake, cams and TB are Not in the budget at this time.

That's always the question with fords!! Which one is # 1 Cylinder. Whos on first and so on.

"The engine includes a windage tray and an 8-quart oil pan, with a 1-5-4-8-6-3-7-2 firing order." But which one is which?? "1-4 is passenger's side working from radiator towards the firewall, then 5-8 again from radiator to firewall but on the driver's side". If this is correct, it aint number 8.

#8 is drivers side closest to the firewall. At least that's what I was told. It can develop a BIG hole.

You go on any banked tracks? Some of the Vettes would fail due to oil starvation / oil pressure loss. Extended left high g banked turns would pile up the oil in the upper engine areas. They have since gone to dry sump set ups (not the BEST dry sump according to real racers) that helped/cured the issue.

:)

No banked tracks. No oil issues and no noises, just smoke from one bank.
I'll scope the cylinders, test compression and read the plugs and go from there.
I just need to know what size plug hole adapter I need for my compression tester.

OK, you are not driving it right? Pull a plug & go to NAPA? Or online? Or just go to NAPA and have the counter guy pick the right plug off the shelf & then have him match the adapter that he sells to that plug.

Not bad advice....but I am out of town.

I think I have a fix. I received a gift certificate from Northern Tool which covered most of the cost of a complete Mityvac brand compression test set.

I'll be home in a few weeks and will dig in to it then

Let's hope I find something small. Regardless she will go back together stronger than original.

Hard to say. Was black flagged and came in. Very little smoke after motor was cool
Was definitely not fuel. Waiting on oil analysis.
Borescope arrived today. Compression tester in next week. Then diagnosis starts.

You're positive smoke was from exhaust and not perhaps rear axle lube leaking on to brakes, right?

I've had the second and it made a lot of smoke.

It appeared to come from exhaust.

I will check Axel's, drive shaft, rear gear etc. as soon as I can. Still out of town.

Thanks guy for the help. New tools (toys) on hand to trace the issue. Just need some time at home.

That's why I come here first. Great assistance from great car guys.

So far on my list of sh.....tuff to check:
Compression
Plugs
View inside of cylinders (New Borescope)
Driveshaft seals
Axel seals
Trans breather
Rear Diff breather can
Rear calipers (Least Likely)
Put it on the lift and check bottom side of car for any leaks

What else? Ill be home for a few days, If I don't have stuff to check in the shop, Ill have to spend time with the wife. Our key to 35 years of bliss has been distractions. Send distractions. LOL.
