How much gear oil did your diff take?

My 2014 GT track pack diff took all 3 quarts of gear oil and was still about 1/8" to 1/4" below the fill hole on the diff cover.

From what ive read it should take 2.75 quarts.

Do i have any reason to be worried about this?

If it gets real hot you may puke oil out of the breather vent. That normally only happens during hard driving track events. You have a overflow/breather can in place?

You should be okay. That's only a bit overfilled since specified for 1/4" to 9/16" below. IIRC, last fill was less than 3 qt. to get it to -9/16"

I live in AZ, so its always hot. I have a track day sept 9th (next sat).

I do not have an aftermarket diff breather/expansion tank in the car yet, but it is on my list of things to do....maybe ill move it up the list.

My GT hasn't puked since the factory overfill and moving the vent from the left tube to the top of the finned diff cover when I changed from the stock stamped steel.

Boss never puked with the vent in the stock location at the top of the OEM finned diff cover.

I should have looked at my vent situation while i was under the car. I have no idea which factory configuration i have.

So I am not quite sure what to think. The owners manual has the capacity at 2.4L which is 2.5 quarts (per the supplement). Am I missing something in how much gear oil our axles takes? Also, you should not be using the diff cover fill hole to determine the level of fluid in the diff. You should be using the fill hole that is on the left front side of the diff. You will have to crawl under the diff. to see and access this one.

2.5 quarts is the factory recommended fill, you are correct. If you really want to scratch your head, the 2013 GT500 only take 2 quarts without the factory cooler....

Doh, i used the fill hole on the cover. Tomorrow ill open up the diff housing fill hole and bleed out some fluid.

Thanks guys!

You must be going to NASA @ Bondurant West this Saturday. I'd hoped to stop out there but I'll be busy in my garage prepping for my next event in October.

Here is some video of the track going clockwise.

Good luck out there!
