Hi everyone,

Can someone please give me a rough idea as to the amount of ground clearance needed to remove the stock factory over axle pipes from a 2013 mustang?

It appears that once they are disconnected from the mid pipe and mufflers, they have to be swung down over the rear axle and lowered/pulled forward.

As always, any and all input is greatly appreciated.

I tried to remove mine when installing the Cortex torque arm while on jack-stands, and I couldn't.

I only had the rear end on jack-stands and it was not enough to swing the pipes out. It looked like I needed to jack the front end to get maximum clearance, but for me that was additional unnecessary amount of work and I was running out of daylight. Based off memory, even with the front enf jacked up to the max height, it'd be somewhat difficult to take them off - probably even more of a PITA getting them back in. So I just left the pipes hanging under the car and pushed them out of the way.

You have to get the rear suspension to full droop plus unbolt the shocks, and up on all four corners. Be safe!

Does this need to be done even if the car is on a four post lift???

I'm installing resonator delete pipes this spring and I have a four post lift in my garage. Hope I don't have to let the axle hang down beyond the shocks.

Going to do this my self very soon, have Lethal Over Axle pipes going on. I hope to do this on jack stands if possible. I have Cortex Torque Arm & Watts Link installed so don't know how much droop I would get.I guess I could cut them.Have been thinking about buying a Quick Jack, they lift about 18", and would make getting under the Car much easier in the future.

I don't know. With a drive-on lift and shocks bolted, it might not be able to droop far enough even though you'll have room to maneuver the front ends of the pipes.

Without dropping past the shocks you will not have enough clearance to wrestle the pipes out by the pumpkin. I did mine by just raising the rear and letting the axle hang down. If i was to do it again i would raise the entire car and let the rear end hang down.

Thanks for the replies.

When I initially tried, I had the rear wheels up on race ramps...

I will give Mad302's method a try- support the frame with jack stands and let the axle hang.

Now if the weather would just cooperate.

I did mine with the axle supported on jack stands. It was a nightmare and I'm sure not the best way but I was able to wrestle it out.

Just finished installing my Borla Resonator Delete Mid pipes on my 4 post lift. Took about an hour. I just let the axle hang down, shocks still connected. I disconnected the front clamp and then when I discounted the rear clamp at the muffler, the mid pipe fell out. Be careful and discount the rear clamp first and then the front clamp. Don't be a moron like me. Live and learn. My wifie says that it is a little louder and deeper. Next piece going in is a Borla X pipe, once I get the side pipe exits fabricated into the x pipe, and then magna flow high flow cats. This way the exhaust will be a full 2 3/4 front to back.

Hi RR2334:

I like where your going with your exhaust system. When I overhauled mine in 2012 the 2-3/4 OTH pipes where not available, so I went with the MagnaFlow 3.0" system X-Pipe with provisions for the Boss 302 Side Pipes.

I think that you'll be very happy with the end result and that extra 1/2" saving in the OTA pipes should make for a clunk free system with your lowered 2013 RR Boss 302.

IIRC, you also have the Kooks Super Street headers. Please keep us posted on the finished exhaust system and the performance of those new MagnaFlow HF Cats. I might be a player with the new HF cats if all goes well once you've had a chance to Street test and review them.

Thanks so much for posting, AND Remember, we love to see PICS.

All the Best,
302 Hi Pro

Don't understand why Ford reduces the size of the tubing on the H pipe and the cats. I'll be using the 2 3/4" cat delete pipes, and have the Magna Flow cats fabbed into them. Was considering some sort of headers, but not sure I want to go there yet.

My car is not lowered either, it's still has stock springs.

RR:

Your 2013 has a real nice stance as it sits in your signature pic. Actually gives the appearance of a slightly lowered Boss 302, (similar to the Steeda Boss 302 Springs). Love the look of your 13 RR with those particular wheels.

What ever you end up with, please take pics of the exhaust mods going in and during the fabrication process, (if possible,of course).

302 Hi Pro

The 20inch rear tire size fills in some of the wheel gap. Should be looking into the x pipe fab in the next week or so. I'll keep you posted of the outcome and take some pics as well.

I do like the wheels on your Kona Blue Boss as well. They are 2012 GT500 Track Pack wheels, correct? I was very fortunate to get the wheels and tires of a brand new 2014 GT500 that was being converted into a super snake a few years back. Also got the 6 piston 15 inch front brakes, 13.8 inch rear brakes and the twin tip exhaust and valance.

Here is what I did for anyone interested.

I bought a Borla X Pipe part number 60513 from Amazon, about 2 feet of 2 inch stainless exhaust pipe from an exhaust shop, and 2 Vibrant exhaust flanges part number 1470S from Jegs.com. My welder used the stock H-Pipe as a template to weld in the side exits on to the x pipe. You will also need 4 bolts 3/8 at least 2 1/4 long, 4 bolts, 8 flat washers and 4 lockwashers, of course 3/8. I also previously installed Borla mid pipes part number 60521 that I got from Amazon. The side pipes are stock.
