Are those Southco latches?

These latches are typically used on Jeeps, mail trucks and delivery vehicles like Fed-X. I'm pretty sure that trunks not popping open unless you choose to do so.
yes they are, many of the spec iron people in my region use these with no issue and save a little weight. So while the trunk was off I finally pulled the trigger on a set and am very satisfied with the strength and ease of use.

Just curious, where does the weight savings come from?
Is there some rule in Spec Iron regarding trunk latches with the traditional solution weighing more than these latches?
Just a little bit from removing the factory power latch assembly. The rules don't say you have too but that you can "gut the trunk". It's honestly negligible but wieght is weight :)

My concern with the stock latch is that if the car gets punted or backs into a wall it could possibly jam the latch and make it hard to get the trunk open. Especially if the fuel cell is on fire. My car has sheet metal where the back seat used to be so it would be almost impossible to get in there without taking the window out and drilling a zillion pop rivets or can opener-ing the trunk lid. It would be just my luck, so I got those same latches for mine. I purchased them from mc master-carr.

Additionally, SCCA doesn't like the key tumbler.
If there is a fire the safety crew can't wait for you to dig up the key.
What a lot of guys do (including myself initially) is to pull that emergency trunk opener cable out through the hole where the tumbler used to be and while that satisfies the tech inspector....what happens if that cable breaks?
The latch is coming off and the rubber hold downs are going on.
Problem solved.

I did some laps at Driveway Austin today on their L2 and L3 courses. Almost like an HPDE event but only for graduates of their road racing school. Got about an hour of practice time[emoji106]

Yesterday I replaced the driver's side ball joint as well as inner and outer tie rods. This will refresh me for 2019 (having replaced the other side at COTA in September and then parking the car after that).
Today, the car goes off for wrap :)

Drew, I see folks treat these things as consumables and should start thinking the same way. Did you replace with OEM parts?
