When I ordered the 6-point for my Boss, I called Crow and talked to the owner. He prefers 2" lap, so thats what I went with. Shoulders are 3" dog-bone for the HANS.
I do think 2" laps are easier to tighten down, and sit lower. So the above pics make sense.

Lots of FIA testing was done in late 2018 to meet the "new" FIA 2016 requirements.

Many if not most lap belts switched to 2" from 3" and most shoulder harness belts are also 2". The shoulder straps fit HANS devices better and the lap belt portion puts the loads on the hip bones better. Good stuff.

Interesting article , as prior to the HANS there was a school of thought that the skinny belts dug in harder with the smaller surface area and actually could crack ribs and damage internal organs easier. Since the HANS device , more research has been done and this article really illustrates the new wave in belt construction and usage. There are still detractors who say the larger surface area covered has better control from digging into the body, but with the HANS covering so much of the neck/chest area , it really lends one to look more solidly at the 2 inch belts for driver comfort and fitment. The best part about this article is the continuing analysis of what works best for the safety of the driver and good to know advances continue to this day?

Having worn 2" harnesses (parachute) and regularly experiencing a 2-4 "G" stop. I can say for the most part, a 2" web is just fine. Have I been bruised by the straps, yes. Would a wider strap have helped? I don't think so. Most of the bruising I experienced did not extend the full 2" side to side. The webbing rolls, folds and in general does not lay perfectly flat against flesh where the stresses are flat against the straps. Would I want a wider strap running through the groin covering more tissue? NOPE.
I have both sizes, 3" in the Boss and 2" in the GT-350 and hope I never have a chance to test either system to its "Full Potential". I do have confidence that both systems will work as designed.
