I agree with Grant , we don't want no Mustaro or a Camtang! Just sounds so wrong and likely could monopolize the industry in the US. Though a Blue Bowtie would go with alot more outfits, haha?

Funny comment that they may have to divest of GMC and Buick if they want to avoid a Monopoly , yet , many Buicks are built in China and they actually sell double the number of them there than in the US. So.............guess who buys Buick, if forced to split up some of the two companies if it ever came to pass?

I see this as a very tough situation to get past Government Regulators, though I can see it would make sense for Ford to look at another alliance in the future to fill in the gaps Worldwide?

What I wonder is why would GM want this? If we're to be realistic, GM has the upper hand here. They have more hybrids, more electric cars, a bigger market share, and a bigger variety of vehicles. Ford is basically Mustangs and trucks, and GM has Camaro's and trucks. What can Ford offer GM? All GM would do is just slowly merge the programs.

I could see ith appening. They already worked together on that 10 speed auto.

I know nothing, but...assets? You know, production lines, supplier relationships, the two of them together could leverage an insane amount of supplier spend and supply chain. Im sure it wouldnt be a 1 to 1 deal.

None of this is really new in the Industry , heck all we have to do is look way back into cost analysis of 50 years ago when there was Oldsmobile, Buick , Chevrolet, Pontiac , etc. building different bodies on essentially the same cars in many cases? It would be very strange in this instance, but I imagine when the mergers happened many years ago there was similar furor ,as General Motors worked hard at becoming a monopoly with the absorption of one car builder after another. Chrysler and Ford were not at the forefront of merger mania , though we know of Chrysler getting Dodge and Maxwell early on and mirroring the diversification of GM. Ford has never had a business model of acquiring tons of other makers like GM , and other than Lincoln most of it's growth was expansion of the Ford marquee Worldwide. GMs history of acquisition suggests it is the leader on diversification, and Ford has a strong history of standing alone but incorporating smaller alliances ( with Countries or other manufacturers, like Mazda for instance). Don't want to see this happen, but the business model of VW ( Porsche, Lamborghini, Bentley, Seat, Bugatti, Audi, etc. ) and now the likely partnership of Renault and Fiat/Chrysler shows that competition will get tighter as the years progress.

Here's hoping Ford stays independently stubborn and gets alliances elsewhere , as a Ford/GM melding just puts a stake in the heart of many a passionate automobile owner!
