Under the heading of "what'll they think of next?" we have this:

https://www.michelin.com/en/news/mi...your-tires-to-improve-your-track-performance/

In case it's not obvious what this does, there's a gizmo that you put in your car that communicates with sensors molded into the tires. Kind of like TPMS except they're designed to help you set and monitor pressures based on the design of the tires. The gizmo communicates with a smart phone so you can read out the data and get recommendations on adjustments.

The dashboard gauges that I watch the most are the tire pressure readouts. Now you can have Michelin watch them too as you drive, and give you advice on setup.

The Track Connect tires are available in 305/30, 315/30 and 325/30 19" MPSC2's. It's like they had GT350's in mind.

Well, if you're putting them on your McLaren, the price will be trivial. For the GT350R tire sizes, the sensor-equipped MPSC2's are $280 extra for a set of four (305F/315R). I haven't found anyone selling the gizmo yet, but somewhere I did see a list price of $500, although that might be wrong.

I downloaded and installed the app. Yes, it has "Ford" as a pre-programmed manufacturer, yes, it has "Mustang" as a pre-programmed car choice. When you select "Mustang" it auto-loads the GT350 as the model and the MPSC2 305/315 combo as the tire type. PP2's need not apply, apparently.

Awesome. Don’t forget to support TMO by using our Tire Rack link above.

UPDATE: I was looking at tires the other day, trying to decide on how I want to go forward. What got me looking was that I've been running a set of 325/30x19 Pirelli Trofeo R's on the rear of my GT350 and it's been an interesting experience, let's just say. I'm at 9 track days, with 1100 track miles, 5300 total miles and 41 heat cycles on these tires and they've still got 2/32" of tread on the outside edge and grip is still awesome. I'm really getting to like 325's on the rear. But that's beside the point.

The point is that I was looking at the range of 325's that I could choose from if I want to stay with 325's in the rear. I'd met someone once at a track day who was running MPSC2's in 325/30x19 on 11.5" OEM CF rims, so I thought I'd price them. I went to the Tire Rack website, "and there they were - gone!". The new "Track Connect" 325's are available, but there is no listing for the older connection-free tire. So I backtracked to the Michelin website, and sure enough, it's gone from there too. Meanwhile, the FP 315/30's are still available in both types, but the price difference has dropped from $70 (see my June post) to $40.

You have to wonder if this is a creeping takeover - will Michelin eventually end production of the older MPSC2 and only sell the new ones with what is effectively a built-in TPMS sensor?

BTW - the reader gizmo is available from Tire Rack now at $499. The gauge I display on my dash when I'm on track is tire pressures, so the Track Connect would add no value at all for me. It does indicate tire temperature, but AFAIK, it doesn't give three temperatures across the face of the tire, so the tire temp function isn't really very useful.
