Thanks!! I will see the damage tomorrow and see which way we go.. A good long block would be a good way to go if the heads are damaged..! I would understand that they would need to be regarded as used and might warrant rings and bearings etc. Will let you know what we find when its apart.... really appreciate the help!

Would you say that a holed block like mine is salvageable...??

Out of curiosity.... the engines that Phoenix race in the number 33 car are with forged or
Hypereutectic pistons.... or basically the M6006-M50A1 engine you mentioned??

That's a question for Joe, since there are several of them there..not sure of all the histories or the series they were built for. Phoenix has it's own engine lab, and they've run Roush Yates stuff, so I really have no answer for you.

The dragster guys run dry blocks so the hole is probably terminal from your perspective

Ok, thanks,, Question: went through my videos again and put up the water temp that the trackaddict was reading by default.... a max of 112C seems on the high side after 8 laps... thats 234 F... Maybe I had issues with the water pump or the large splitter covering most of the engine?? No engine warning lights and the water temp gauge did not read high and was not even close to red when I had my "event"... but the data shows a steady rise.. When the engine went it was at 104C or 219F

Well, that's got me wondering.
I ran at Mosport yesterday, pretty hot day around 82F, intake air temps were 90-91F. The data shows I am seeing 219 F at the end of the back straight, 212 is the lowest number I see. This is not turning big revs, I try to keep below 6500 rpm and in most places I'm shifting closer to 6000 as it works better that way in a couple of places, did a PB of 1:36.7 yesterday running like that.
PP1 car with bigger rad that comes with that but no additional cooling. Stock engine with only PP2 kit added. I'm looking into additional hood venting, maybe even a KOHR hood.
Is this temp a concern or about what would be expected?

I know I ran right at 240-250 at High Plains Raceway years back ( high altitude) and she stomped some Porsches , so I figured all was good,ha? Had run 250 many times in a Generation II Viper and it was quite common, even remember talking to the guys that ran World Challenge, and like BS1 , they kept on running -- hot, but they finished the races.

Well that's good to know, I had never thought about this before, the temp gauge always is in the normal range on track so I decided to look at the data from the video I shot yesterday and that's what I saw. It was more than I was expecting but clearly not a big deal. Thanks guys.

Good to know! Will discard high water temps as the culprite....So far the intake manifold is off and lots of clean up as everything is covered in oil.... We count 8 intake valves and the all seem straight and normal...... o_O A baby step, but positive none the less! Hoping to get into the engine tonight so we can plan the financing :(

Looks like the CJ oil pump is done for..., Crank looks ok, but will replace. Happy to see that it was the Con rod instead of something my mechanic did... He was really uptight till he saw the damage then relaxed a little.....

I feel you. I windowed my block at Summit Point, you can see the hole just "below" the motor mount. You can listen to the sound here (it's surprisingly quiet)
go to the 28 minute mark. Ended up with an aluminator shortblock, new heads, and a billet oil pump gear... Almost ready to head back (but a little scared...)

For the massive damage one would have expected a lot of noise but there's none.
What broke? A rod?

you would think it would sound a little more dramatic!!! My buddies ZL1s piston went and it made a sound to remember......

Whats the diference inbetween a 2016 block JR3Z-6010-A at $830 vs 2012 block CR2Z-6010-A at $1100... If I remember right I can use the 2015+ gen 2 block with the Boss heads right???

Thats quite the damage! Going to build a new bottom end that will hopefully be bullit proof....... Nasty shock to the wallet....

Well this week will be making my birthday present to myself.

So far I have the following in mind.

1) K1 light weight con rods, comes with 7/16" ARP 2000 caps and weighs less about 7 grams less then other rods I have been able to get specs on.

2) Either Mahle 11.2:1 psitons or JE 11:1 piston which are lighter by 30grams!! Worried about fuel quality down here for the 11.2:1 mahle set

3) Boss OEM crank

4) Not sure if ARP bolts for the rest of the engine are really needed for a N/A build that is never going north of 500 rwhp.... Is going with new stock gen 2 bolts ok??

5) Gen 2 new OEM block

6) new Oil pump

7) Full oem gasket kit.

8) King XP bearings

Roughly about US$3500 of pain... but on the bright side.....it should rev like a demon and be safe to 8000rpm (if anything really is safe).... And suggestions or cold water buckets are welcome. add another $1500 for labour and odds and ends.... What a great Bday present!!..... o_O:( I must like myself!!!

I really like the 3rd generation mahle powerpak piston.

However, if you're ordering a new OEM block, order the pistons .010" over if going mahle (3.640 vs 3.630). Ford's sloppy machining will in no way meet the spec for the mahle piston to wall clearances. Make sure you have torque plates available as well. I have a really nice set that I can loan out once my machinist sets up my block, which I hope is any day now. More info on that on the build thread I had started a while back.

Thanks Capt for the offer! But by the time we did the air fright and fight through customs it would not be very economical!!! The pain that comes from living at the end of the world!! Will re read your thread and check what the machine shop we use has. To bad about the Ford Block!! one more added complication!!

Hey looks like we both break things all the time!!! Need to find a lucky charm.............
