I have new shoes on the way from Tire Rack (yep, used the link at the top of the page) for my '10 GT.
Should I replace the TPMS sensors, or are they still good with only 25,000 miles on them?
I've read that the electronics shut off when the wheels are not turning. So low miles, but also 9 years old.
I've dug up some old threads here with good Ebay sellers if you guys tell me to replace them.
Don't want to spend money that's not needed. But if its smart, I'll replace them.

302BOB, dang, TMPS at a dealer must have been some $$$$$

Grant, from what I read on the 'net (therefore must be true!) the '10 uses the same stem-mounted TPMS as '11-14. But Rock Auto does show band style for 17" wheels.
Looking at the ebay links in older threads here, those links are dead on ebay.
I want OEM ones that have FoMoCo molded into them.
Anyone buy them on ebay recently and can recommend a seller? Quite a few feedbacks say not FoMoCo even though it was in the pic shows FoMoCo product.

Thank you for using the link!

I ordered several sets of sensors from eBay and they were all OEM take offs. They worked fine. The change either took place in 2010 or 2011 but I don’t know for sure.

It's been awhile but somebody had a deal on the TPMS sensors and the all important programmer..it all has run together between the mustang, the truck, the wife's mini and a couple of Porsche race cars, but 25K your sensors should still be good, however, if you are replacing the wheels and want to keep the assemblies together then you'll need more sensors.

I hope that's correct, and let us know if not!

I haven't bought any new ones for over 5 years, but I do know of a few that have failed on '11, '12, and '13 cars. It's usually just one, but most people replace all 4 to prevent the expense and hassle of figuring out which one is bad. I've helped someone do that, and it's a pain.

I think I have three TPMS sending units and not once did I ever have to use it. I have four sets of tires, each with their own TPMS sets and programmers but never had to use them. It seems they self mated. And yes, they worked because everytyme I go to the track and dump air pressure, I get the idiot light coming on. BTW - two of the four sets of TPMS units I suspect are not OEM that I got heavily discounted on eBay and have had no issues with them although I did change out all but the OEM wheels with metal stems.

it begs the question, why run them at all? I can see it on your daily driver, but at the track it would be normal to keep an eye on them without the sensors. Sometimes the pressures that you run will make the lights come on for several laps anyway. The Porsche was instrumented and you could see the pressures on pit lane, so that was the reason for it there, but on a track car..why bother?

with regards to your daily, the original 05 cars had band sensors, the later ones had them at the valve stems. The valve stems are preferred and I think, because I did this on my car (07) that someone makes the valve stem sensors that will "speak" to the old band style sensors because they use a different wave length or some such nonsense.
But in any case, there are at least 2 distinct mounting schemes and at least 2 different means of communicating to the ECM.
I ended up going to CJ's Pony Parts which seemed to be the most knowledgeable on the product differences.

I have 10 aftermarket rims and I bought sensors from eBay, some guy in Detroit, they all were good......Except the last 2 I received went into my 11" rims when I went square, and one of those sensors is a dud. It works OK for a little while then the TPMS system throws an error and I get the damn dash light on which can be distracting, and from that point on there's no tire pressure display just an error message.

I have 2 spare TPMS thingies but I don't really want to randomly attack this as 30 series tires on 11" rims gives the tire guy fits, believe it or not in my part of the world I'm the only guy with rims that wide.

I just wondered does anyone know if the TPMS system records which wheel position it is and could I find that out with Forscan or the ProCal tool which I have on my computer from the PP2 install?

Ah, the old "which tire is going down dilemma". My '12 doesn't tell me which tire is low but I thought that changed on the '13 Bosses. My '17 F-150 gives me everything, the tire and the pressure. In simpler tymes, you could just feel it while driving and you'd get out of the car and look to see which one was low on pressure.

Well, not really the tire going down dilemma, because they're fine, it's just the damn sender in one of the 11" wheels is bad. It's one of the fronts, but so far no idea which one. And even worse it works for a while cold but after a varying period of time it takes a dump. When it throws the error you can't even get into the TPMS section on the center display thing, all you can see is the error message that gives zero details, just says TPMS error.

Thinking I will hook up my phone to the OBD bluetooth and using Forscan take it for a drive long enough to trigger the thing to shutdown and see what if anything Forscan records.

Have you tried to rematch them back up with the TPMS tool? Just a thought.

I don't have the tool. They've all been just plug and play, never had a problem until this last set. I don't know if having the tool would help because the system does recognize all 4 until I drive a few miles, then it throws the error and the whole TPMS system in inaccessible (so far). It isn't really stopping me from doing anything, they don't even require TPMS up here, it's just annoying having that yellow warning light on in the tach and the error message on the center console if I go to the tire pressure screen. I bought 3 sets from this guy, all exactly the same part number and this is the first time I've had a problem with one. Haven't had time to get further into it with Forscan/Procal3 but hopefully this week I will.
