I suspect the left exiting the esses will require a breathe off the throttle at entry to get the car to point, but it may depend on tires and track conditions. It's a 110 MPH entry in the GT4, so it's not one I'm going to charge into and hope for the best!

Well, turns out no breathe is required. The GT4 has so much aero grip that it was happy to stay flat once I'd worked my way up to it. It's definitely a commitment turn-in and I had to trust the car, but I got there.

New Buttonwillow CW13 PB: 1:49.50 (this time in high heat). Yee haw :)

@treynor i heard there was some hardware attached to that lap. Congratulations!

Ok. I feel a little stupid posting after Ben Doing 1. 49
But I did my PB in buttonwillow too :) i actually have 2 times with 2 different tires

Ben, very nicely done for your first time out! My only suggestions for you the next time out is don't be afraid to get up on the curbing and stay flat out through the esses! you lifted right before the last one to the left and if you hadn't you'd easily be at a 1:49 or better!

Again though fantastic job and thanks for making the trek all the way down to our event, it was a pleasure having you there!

@treynor who knew i had any idea that I knew what I was talking about :p;)

Nice driving this weekend!

Well heck, not much faster for, well, reasons. But pb is pb!

Big thanks to everyone here who helped me out setting up the car! It felt great out of the box. On my first on-throttle-lap I matched my old PB from last winter, albeit in 90°f. I was neither hitting my marks yet, nor did I know my correct shift-points and gears. Taking 2s off this time should not be rocket science.

Nice driving this weekend!

I do tend to be cautious at tracks I don't know, and that corner in particular requires commitment. Once you turn left at speed, it's going to be hard to change your mind, and if it isn't working, there's nowhere to go but dirt on the right and a wall on the left.

That said, on Michelin S8 hards the GT4 took the corner flat with track to spare on the exit. I expect even on cooler days with a faster turn entry it'll still be a zero-drama flat left in that car.

That's a quick lap, nice driving. How did you like the RE-71R's?

Thanks! I liked the Bridgestone RE-71Rs. I went out that day with my end-of-life Michelin PSC2s, but they corded on the first session. My my friend loaned me his extra wheels/tires and the Bridgestones had about 6 sessions them. I know they had the reputation of longer life than the Michelins, but I thought they'd also have far less grip. Not quite the case! Pretty darned good grip, and although I think they may be a couple seconds slower than the Michelins, they had an amazing predictability about them. I know people say that often about tires, but the RE-71R really made me feel that concept. In turn 7 as I came around the hairpin, I could just feel them slipping a tiny bit, and I could modulate them well with the throttle. Same in turn 11, 2, and 4. It was interesting that although they had a bit less grip, it was easy to use...the Michelins always feel like they'll grip right up until they let go completely. I guess the word for the RE71 is a "progressive" feel. There is never any doubt as to where they are on the grip scale at any point. I liked them so much I went and bought a set. Just took them to Thunderhill and still like them quite a bit. At thunderhill I think I lost a good 4 seconds compared to the Michelins, but again... I really enjoyed driving the Bridgestones. I think I'll stick with them, as I can likely get double or more the track days out of them (I went through 2 sets of Michelins in 3000 miles ,out of which was about 8 track days). I'm in third place in Nasa Time Trial points in my TT2 class and nowhere near catching Mr. #1 and Mr. #2 (running 1:46s), so I might as well run the tire that lasts me longer!
