Nick Smither ( i.e. BlackBoss ) absolutely put on a Clinic this past weekend at Autobahn Country Club NASA race. Not only did he win the ST2 Class , he also killed it in TT2, taking the Gold Medal there also. The key, though, was his stunning runs over all the competition, with him often ending up between 3 to 5th overall against cars that should have been dramatically quicker ( Sports Racers, AIX Mustangs, and more ) . Of course, the attention to detail on his GT 350R had to intimidate many , as the beast is also a beauty , and once she starts up the aural cacophony is a siren call to demoralize all other racing participants. To say his GT 350R sounds good, is an understatement, she pulls you towards addiction with her sensuous scream of power. It was pretty damn cool to watch his dominance and I got a few pointers from him on some areas of the track to hammer harder than they appeared , but getting a conversation with the Maestro was a bit difficult as the minute he came in from a race , he started quick work on the car and then back out for the Time Trials. I am only 7 years older than BlackBoss, but he was rushing between the groups so quickly that sometimes he only made it in the ..........drum roll.......Nick of time! Seriously, Nick had the car folks most wanted to check out , as it seemed most of the weekend there were participants or spectators over in our area checking out the Grey Ghost.

JD Krull ( TT2 ) and I ( ST2 ) , both took satisfying 2nd Place spots behind Mr. Smither, and as it was the first time at the track , ever, for each of us, we went away pleased with our performances. I had a constant battle with an AC Cobra, that through a missed shift ( on my part ) and some chicanery on his, meant I started every race behind him. Had fun chasing him down and keeping him behind me , as we were reasonably well matched. They split up the field into three groups , so the races all included tons of passing, as you caught the slower cars, but because many were only marginally slower, picking your spot to initiate a pass often determine whether you moved ahead or other drivers found the gaps better? Great time overall with quite a few TMO members present , and I gave out a bunch of my cards ( no Tymeslayer I did not try to sell them anything ,ha) with the TMO website info written on the back.

Kudos, also, to Tracy Munday ( TMS ) who went out on his last run Sunday in the passing exercise for HPDE 3 and 4 , that turned into almost and out and out race. He had an adrenaline rush and absolutely was on a competitive high, as he ripped 6 seconds off his previous time, was passing folks at will , and ended up with a dynamite 1:39 run in his new GT 350R -- first time he ever had White Lightning on the track!

Need to get more to come here next year as we have a member on this board that suggested we might have a TMO party for all , and there is a space to accomplish this?!

Beautiful track, great racing, great times, great TMO friends and ...................BlackBoss hammered the competition to Smithereens ( yep, me included )!!

Looked like a good weekend and lots of Mustang winning for TMO members!

It was fun watching the masters at work. Nick gave the field something to think about, mostly "Why Me" as he "Schooled them All". Bill and his cobra "Buddy" with a bit of off road passing.

Autobahn is a fantastic facility. Pavement, buildings and grounds were second to none.....Well at least for Illinois.

The New ride was impressive. A large step up from the Boss. At times I was curious if I would ever have to shift. Third gear out of the corners and up to 103 MPH.....nice.

One other important lesson Bill and I learned....the hard way. Nick is an expert on most things auto racing related. BUT....if you have a flat tire, don't call Nick. His advice can be a bit "Unconventional" to say the least.

A great time on and off track. Thanks guys.

My pass through the wet grass over the Cobra gave me about 3 seconds of " Alex Zanardi" like glory , before I realized I had a fast turn coming up and hoped the dampness was off the rubber? The run may be on my camera disk , but my son is not sure there is enough memory and unfortunately I can't download onto my wife's MAC. Going to have to get it to my son, as can't even download at my work computer.

Hello to the Road Racing forum. Bill Pemberton stopped by our paddock spot this weekend and encouraged to join the club! I'm Chris Williams have been racing a 2010 Mustang GT in Spec Iron (#55) (NASA) for the last two years, and in Spec Miata both SCCA and NASA for the ten years prior to that. Looking forward to meeting more TMO members at the track! Come join us in Spec Iron for close racing at decent expenses! These cars are fast!!! :)

Big thanks to Boss302R13 for his hospitality and graciousness to his fellow TMO members. This is a track we all need to consider going to next year, and hanging out with each other!? I am sure BlackBoss will be happy to demonstrate his suggested method of how to blow up a tyre for all of us, ha.

I do know, if he is there with the Grey Ghost that I will bug him a lot more on his lines, as the guy is in Warp Drive around this track and it is only partly the car - there is a reason he ended up in 4th at the Nationals!!

Here is a link to the Spec Iron track record lap 1:35.990, the stock 3V can really move if you keep her on boil....kind of hard to do with the spec 3:31 rear end gears! I screwed up turn one a little...could have even been a better track record....

Yep , that was Speedycrw blowing by me like I was a moving chicane. BlackBoss and I had a horrible time trying to get power down during this wet qualifying set. Yet, as you can see, it sure did not slow Speedy down at all, as he blew by many machines including some Sportsracers!!!

I did thank the weather gods during the race, though, as it was dry and the BossS was rocking then!

Bill, it was fun. I agree. We should try to set up a track day next year with interested TMO members. Would be fun.

R013,

Are you thinking of a separate day, or just trying to get a bunch more together for a NASA event there , as I think that would work well for many. We need to drag you out to the Mustang Roundup ( hopefully early October in 2020 instead of the middle of September) , as I know you would enjoy hanging out with 40-60 other Mustang maniacs. Bring your 302 R, could be the only one there, though we will have plenty of 350Rs if history repeats itself.
