Vell das ist sehr gute, azz mein Deutsche is besser mit zwei biers!! Since it has been over 50 years since I lived in Deutschland, my German is now obviously of the improvisational type and I have little chance to use ( or remember ) it. Is your Stang in Vienna with you, or still back in the States? Hopefully so, since there are getting to be quite a few European spec GTs over on the continent , but likely not many Shelbys running around?

Hello Bill,

My company moved us over to Germany in 2000. They paid for one car and I shipped a 99 Cobra at the time. Sold it in 2012 in Germany. It saw quiet a bit of time at the Nürburgring. Had to redo both the front and rear suspension (Griggs) and pretty much everything else so that it had something close to what could be called handling. I sold it because I was so fed up with Mustangs.

In 2003, I got moved to the corporate headquarters in Vienna Austria.

Then Ford came out with the 2016 Shelby GT350. I was in the states (am there a lot) and still had a soft spot for Ford Mustangs, so I bought one and brought it over myself in Nov 2017, a new 2017 without the tech pack cooling issues. It’s black with Blue stripes. There are a total of 4 here in Austria now.

Spend most of my time at the Red Bull ring in Spielberg southern Austria, the Slovakiaring, and at the Hungaroring in Hungry. Turned 60 just a couple of weeks ago but still enjoy driving on the track a lot. Nothing more fulfilling! Simply hate the Bavarian Manure Wagons and pesky 911’s. I love the look on their faces when they realize it’s a Ford. A lot of people think it’s fake until I tell them to Google Shelby GT350 and then they freak out that they are standing in front of one. Ford does not have a good reputation here.

Peter

Well, now that you have found TMO there is only one thing we will demand from you ----videos from you blowing by das Manure Vagens, und Bach Porches! I am turning 68 in a bit over a week and I can tell you the joy of running on track does not stop! I am sure I am echoing the thoughts of many of the members , that when you do get to hit 8250 rpm around the Hungaroring, Red Bull Ring, etc. we would love to see some photos or videos.

Have you done any mods to the Shelby, like camber plates , oil catch cans, tires, rims, etc.?

Hello Bill,

The GT350 has most of the track mods everyone else has like solid bushings, camber plates, etc. TrackMustangOnline is an excellent source for good, solid, information and very knowledgeable people! Actually have been a member since April 2018.

I guess what is unique on my setup is that I run the FP springs on the front and left the stock higher rate springs on the rear. Adds a tiny bit of rake (the FP springs slightly lower the car) but that is a good thing. I also run the Steeda massive 38mm sway bar on the front and the Steeda 22.6 mm bar on the rear. Both are adjustable. Spent a day on a skid pad and got it setup the way I like it. Engine is completely stock. Run the Carbotech XP12 pads on the front and Carbotech XP10 on the rear which seem to do the trick.

Added a center hood vent in the fall from TrackSpec and the AeroCatch hood latches to get rid of the hood shaking. Upcoming winter projects are the radiator ducting and oil cooler from the FP350S and a redesigned sealed airbox and inlet system to get more air under higher pressure to the engine. The stock setup bothers me a little with that hood seal and the way the air gets to the airbox. Lead time on parts and the 24% import duties are always an issue here but you learn to live with it.

Here is one lap at the Red Bull Ring that a friend of mine in a Hyundai I30N took. We usually go together to open track days. Couldn’t talk him into a Mustang :-( You can see the wonderful scenery of the Alps in southern Austria and the track. This was April 2018 and you can still see the snow on the mountains surrounding the track. I pass him in the Shelby at the 1:00 min mark. I do take in car video but with a GoPro but no telemetry info overlay. Buying a proper in car video setup with telemetry data is on the list somewhere :)

That really gives one a sense of the elevation changes and having watched the F1 race there numerous times, I can say I didn't get the visual impact of the ups and downs of the track that this video provided - thanks. Sounds like you have done some cool changes and I do hope we hear more from you and your track exploits ( or even just cruising in the Austrian Alps with the Shelby) ? I traveled through Austria numerous times with my family as a young man ( my family was stationed in Germany as my father was a fighter pilot ) and I remember that incredible bridge, near Innsbruck, that we crossed the first year it opened. Beautiful Country and it has to be fun to rip through the mountains in the GT350?

Thanks for posting all the info on your mods!

Am I the only one disappointed there isn't a picture of it? I'd like to see fins and a T shape like the ones from 55 years ago.

I've seen them and the trap door work is similar to the 350S, but at a lesser scale. I'd say the ultimate wet sump setup is the FP350S pan followed by this one.

That said, maybe this one actually fits the coyote/voodoo/predator family unlike the FP350S pan. The jigs were all over the place for the pan rails and oil pickup tube. If I spend much more on these parts fixing them with fabricators, I will be in dry-sump kit territory.

Had this pan been available a while ago, I'd probably have gone this direction instead. I'll see if I can dig up a picture of it.

GT500 Pan:

That said, I don't see any reason for people to burn the money on the race part, the GT500 pan looks 90% of the way there.

Thanks captdistraction for the pictures of the GT500 race oil pan and the pictures of the FP350S Road Race Oil Pan!

According to the GT500 Shelby Supplement, the oil capacity of the GT500 is 11.5 qts.
The Ford Performance web site for the FP350S oil pan says that its capacity is 12 qts.
https://performanceparts.ford.com/part/M-6675-M52RR

So I believe that FP350S oil capacity of 15 qts is probably due to the large oil cooler and lines. So in essence, these two oil pans have the same capacity.

I will also assume that the high capacity oil pump is probably the Ford Performance 5.2L/2018-2019 5.0L Billet Steel Gerotor Oil Pump - M-6600-M52
https://performanceparts.ford.com/part/M-6600-M52

Will also assume that the kit uses the 5.2L Coyote Style Road Race Oil Pump Pick Up Tube - M-6622-M52RR
https://performanceparts.ford.com/part/M-6622-M52RR

Can’t imagine that Ford redesigned a completely new pump and pickup for the GT500. They probably used the Ford Performance parts they designed for the FP350S.

So based on what captdistraction wrote about the FP350S Oil Pan quality and the fact that you get the whole kit here for almost half of what the FP350S Oil Pan alone costs, this looks like a great option and deal. It also seems like there is no difference in oil pan capacity. No brainer upgrade for the GT350 oil system.

On the contrary, I think it's unlikely that any parts are the same. The FP aftermarket parts are designed for racing and built by specialty short-run suppliers. The parts in a production vehicle that'll be produced in the thousands with a 5 year warranty are designed and tested by Ford engineers with a view to balancing cost, reliability and performance. They're manufactured by suppliers that are used to making thousands of parts for production vehicles. I just can't imagine the parts being the same or coming from the same factory.

Also, while it's possible that they'd use a billet oil pump gear, if you do enough reading and research, it seems that the reason people need billet gears is because engines with aftermarket FI kits often don't have sufficient crank damping. The crank whips just enough to weaken and eventually break a sintered gear. That's a loose end that Ford's engineers wouldn't leave loose, and there are both performance and cost advantages to sintered gears, particularly in daily-driver type use.

So, it's great to dream about race-specific parts in a street engine, I think it's unlikely they'll actually be there.

I agree, and I hope the production pickup tube is nicer than the FPP tube (as that part wasn't close to fitting on my FP350S setup)

Does the oil pump have billet gears? If not, will the Coyote billet gears work in it?
It does not have billet gears although they are supposedly stronger than the Coyote/Voodoo gears. They are also thicker by about 0,080" so 'Yote gears wont work. The pickup tube is about 1" I.D.
