What a great find and thanks for posting, as I , like others , thoroughly love watching V8 Supercars! One of the best racing series on the Planet at BS1 noted and hopefully they will return to COTA or another track in the US sometime in the future?!

Not likely, I don't think NASCAR would like that at all, I really believe that the growing fan base of the Aussie V8s is what prompted NASCAR's new car. When they went to COTA before, I thought that was a bellweather event for American stock car racing, they won't be back on US soil any time soon.

And yet, these new Gen3 cars are probably what most fans in the US would want to see...

Blacksheep I absolutely agree that SuperCars is one of the absolute best racing conducted anywhere on this Globe, but I would politely disagree with the situation at COTA. World Challenge loved having the Supercars run with them at COTA , but the attendance, low TV viewership, and overall cost of transportation was the reason the Aussies declined in coming back. A good friend, on the WC Board , was hoping for their return, but the numbers did not work for the Down Under Racers to venture back here anytime soon. Now with their growing number of fans Worldwide , it would not surprise me to see them venture back in the coming years.

With Xfinity going to Mustangs, Camaro, Camrys ( finally now Supras ) years back, due to fan's desires I would have to suggest the move to pony cars was in the cards long before V8 Supercars switched over. After all their Series was based for years on everything from Holdens, Falcons, Ultimas, and even Mercedes for a bit, so the change to Pony cars actually followed the US lead by a number of years.

Now to say NASCAR is blind would be foolish on my part, because we have active Team Owners running in the Australian Series ( Penske for instance ) and with the success of road course races there it may have helped stimulate the addition of more circuitous NASCAR venues. Overall I do not believe their return would be derailed by NASCAR since they had nothing to do with the original foray, but dollars made , shipping, viewership, and attendance will have to be accountable for the trip back over the equator. Just my opinion but based on a long conversation with an individual very much in the dealings with the race at COTA, because like you I was hoping to see them race again in the US of A.

Respectfully Submitted,
Bill Pemberton

You have to think though, with the addition of the Camaro to the series, this looks like it would be a great opportunity for Supercars to get some REAL interest from the US audience. Seems like this would still be a really good supporting race for NASCAR, or maybe even IMSA or F1. Not that Supercars would want to be seen as a "supporting series", but if the opportunity to make a big step in their US fanbase based on this new Gen3 car is what it seems to be, you'd think they'd want to try it.

These cars have the right look. They have the right sound. They have the right type of racing. I really do hope they come to the US again soon.

They would likely have to be a support series initially because folks on TMO are highly knowledgeable about this and other racing groups around the World, but I am constantly surprised how few folks are aware of the real Thunder from Down Under! Get those boys back to the US supporting F1 or a big IMSA Race like Le Petit LeMans and bingo , we would find a slew of new fans. Cool to find so many on here who appreciate the V8 Supercars and hopefully some of the Australian TMO members will drop us some news or videos at any of the events they might attend?

Supercars have shown they're happy to be a support series as they have featured as such at the Melbourne F1 GP and it seems like this will be happening again in 2022, Supercars to headline Australian F1 supports Obviously that's on home soil for them without the logistics and travel costs.

They do travel down to New Zealand for a round, this year back at Pukekohe Park Raceway Pukekohe to host 2022 New Zealand round I've been to see them live here a couple of times. It's pretty hectic on what is a very fast, pretty dangerous old track.

It must be listed as one of the absolute greatest racing events in the World and if one disagrees once they watch the Bathurst 1000 their mind is changed for ever!!! Just my opinion , but.............I am friggin correct, ha!!

NASCAR owns IMSA, you'll never see those Aussie V8s in America again

Nascar has no coin in World Challenge or IndyCar, and considering that Penske owns the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and also runs at team in the V8 SuperCar Series, I could see them returning here as a support for IndyCar. Not really worried about NASCAR will influence, I just think their ( V8 Supercars ) exposure to US audiences needs to grow . The money to get all those cars here and back is substantial and the first trip to COTA was a financial loss.

New cars don't debut til 2023 :rolleyes::rolleyes::mad:...
I know... that's a LONG time to wait. Curious to see if any other cars get added to the mix in the meantime, or if it will just be Mustang vs Camaro. I'm guessing if that were going to happen it probably would have had to been done by now though, looking at all the R&D taking place for the parity efforts.
