I’m back from Spring Nationals and with that the learnings of where we are at. Throughout the 4 days in Lincoln, I competed in the Pro Solo in CAM and the Tour in Cam T. For the Pro it’s all the Cam cars in one class with an index. If you have never seen a Pro Solo it’s two mirrored autox courses with a drag race start for 60ft before you turn into the courses. Over 2 days you have 3 sessions and 6 total runs on both sides. Going in I had no experience in Pro Solo so no expectations either. With my little experience my starts were lackluster but the times were good. After session one I was the fastest Cam T car and 5th out of 18. Session 2 I got better at my starts and jumped all the way up to the 2nd. (Was not expecting that!). Session 3 I was not able to improve but James Darden and Dave Schotz were out for blood after they put on nice A052s on their 17 Camaro and both bumped me down along with Justin Peachy in his viper. I’m pretty happy with my performance in the Pro Solo 5th place with a trophy. Showed what these old Foxbodies can do with a little elbow grease. Afterwards Schotz told my dad and I that the night before him and Darden were talking saying “are we really getting our ass’s kicked by a foxbody”. Pretty cool hearing that from a legend of autox. Moving on to the tour (normal two day autox) I was excited having some momentum (this was short lived). Chris Cargill and Wayne Atkins brought their defending champion Camaro that is an insane car and Chris made easy work of me in the mustang. A second faster each day gave him an easy weekend. I was able to stay in second out of 11 Cam T cars with Mark Madarash and his legendary Trans-Am .4 behind me. I sense a friendly rivalry starting between me and him after day two we talked and he’s planning on getting back into development for his car. As he has not been really running as much since Covid has hit and has not been able to get a lot of seat time on the A052s. For us it’s a race to see who can catch that Camaro first! After the weekends results of 5th in Pro and 2nd in Tour I’m happy but not satisfied. I have some ideas to get the car on top and with enough time and money it will get there haha. To start with 315s square is a need so we are starting there. I’ll make another post going more in depth with the next developments 👍🏻

The past weekend we brought the stang out to Waterloo Iowa for an Iowa Region event. This was a two day event Saturday TNT/ Sunday normal event. To save tire we ran our 275/18 Goodyears that can take abuse to do some testing on the Saturday. Our main goal was to try some different rebound settings in the back to try and settle the car. The new settings definitely make the car way easier to drive and faster so we are sticking with them. For those of you with inside wheel spin problems at the back I recommend going up in your rear rebound. I found that more rebound helped the dif lock up way sooner and put power down. I also had Taylor Julich who drives a super cool S197 Mustang try out more rebound in the rear because he was having the same issues as me. More rebound helped the problem on both cars so it’s safe to say on stick axles it definitely works for the dif. When making rebound adjustments be careful not to go too high because it will make the car handle on a knife edge which is not what you want. Another thing that was new this weekend was the front splitter! It was too low at 1.5 inch off the ground scraping on the edges during cornering and the middle during braking but it did make for a super cool sight of sparks coming out of the car. In the pic of my dad below you can see some flying off! I’m planning to raise it up to about 2 inches off the ground and see if I can get away with it. Sunday we ran 295 A052s which had a lot more front grip and make the rear too alive so we reduced the rear rebound a little bit from where we put it on Saturday. Results wise the weekend was great and I finished Top pax and my dad was 5th! They also caught my favorite autox pic ever of me pulling off a sick slide!!

Softer rear bar or stiffer front bar. What kind of balance does your car have. More over or understeer?
Understeer, but of course can induce oversteer. I was only able to record data for first run, so I'll have to see if helped any. But felt really good.

Nothing new development wise on the stang. Before the event this past weekend I raised the front splitter half an inch to see if it wouldn’t scrape but sadly it still does. Before the next event I’ll be raising it up more it looks like. The main goal for the weekend was seat time. Saturday during the tnt we were one of the fastest cars even with our 220tw 275 Goodyear supercar 3’s. Those tires wear like iron and the lack of grip makes them good for practicing control and driving smoothly. Pace wise they are about a second or so slower than then the A052 on a 30 second course. Sunday we put the Yokes back on and ended the day first in pax and we were the fastest thing that had doors. My time was a 32.016 so close to a 31 but the rain came down before I had a chance to sneak into the 31s :/ Chassis wise the car feels great we just need some moreeeeee powaaaaaa.

Emery is killing it of late and he is a strong contender for a trophy and in my opinion could be the next National Champion. Tough Class, but like my son, he has his ole Dad as a tyrewarmer, ha. We taught our sons well, and both of us have years of experience getting tires warm. Fun time and I know I hope to see a lot of TMO Tirewarmers at the Solo Nationals -- remember I will be running in ASP in my son's silver EVO 9 , so not a Blue Oval Cone Killer at this event.

Down on power a bit but I have something that Camaro doesn’t. A super cool looking Cobra on my intake! 🐍

Haven’t updated this in a bit. Nothing much has changed with the car since the last time. But we just got these Volk Racing ZE40s from Penguin Garage to use for our nationals efforts this year. These wheels are the real deal! 18x12 and only weigh 18 pounds it’s mind blowing! Other than those awesome things we replaced the plugs, coils, and wires because of a misfire that became a problem. Good news the misfire is gone! We also put a colder thermostat in the car. It helped a little but it still does like to run a little hot. Something we have to deal with. Spraying the car down between runs and opening the hood makes it manageable but I’ll definitely have to wire the fan to always stay on. Lastly, we just got a 03 Mach 1 steering rack it feels a lot better than the V6 piece of crap that was in it so I am very happy about that. My next post will most likely be after nationals so fingers crossed that it goes well!!

Is this real life? We did it the mustang and I are the 2022 CamT National Champions. From where we started this year to now is such a jump. I can’t thank everyone enough. Thanks to Penguin Garage for the wheels and tires, Taylor Julich for the steering wheel and seat, Brian Goodner who is the brains behind this operation with car set up and most importantly my dad for giving me this opportunity and warming those tires up nice for me. Lastly, this win is for my Grandpa he built this car 15 years ago so he could fulfill his dream of racing and I continued his dream and used it to accomplish mine of winning a national championship! Can’t get much better than this. I’ll be updating you guys with more build stuff soonish. I’m gonna enjoy this for a bit after all the blood, sweat and tears that went into this year. Speechless
