Criticizing NASCAR today be remembering a race from 20 years ago?? An interesting point of view.
NASCAR has gone back to the idea of a stock like car. It took a while, agreed. Strut front end, Independent rear end, 5 speed trans, 18" wheels and some electronics. Sounds like my Boss more so than a racecar from just 3 years ago. The manufacturers have a huge say in the body shapes. You no longer need to look for the stickers from each manufacturer to see who's motor is under the hood. Yep, Motor....It's a NASCAR thing. LOL
Teams have to buy "Stock to NASCAR" parts. Want to make a different suspension part, you can't. This helps keep the competition somewhat equal and stops the mega buck teams from running away with the season. Last year there were 19 different winners. Sounds competitive to me.
I guess some still dream of the "Good Ole Days" when the leader was on their own lap and half of the field dropped out with mechanical issues. Foggy memories always make yesteryear so much better. LOL

I once watched two snails race across my driveway to escape the rising sun. Now that's racing!
It's all good. Doesn't even have to be a car (Dogs, Horses, Boats etc.) Good to see Ford getting back into F1 too. Been a big Astin Martin fan for years. Wasn't Andretti talking about an American team?

There hasn't been a "1 lap lead" winner in NASCAR that I can remember, last one was around 1979.. maybe. I'm just tired of one guy's screw up taking out half of the competitive cars in the field, and if that's not enough we'll run an extra 2 laps to screw up the fuel strategies and take out the other half. At some point, skill has to enter the picture for me to be interested.

In the “Modern Era” since the 80’s the winner has lapped the field 12 times. DW did it 4 times. The last time was 1994. Which was my point. NASCAR has matured gradually and more significantly recently. Cars don’t run away from the field. Tuning and drivers skills wins the race, not mega buck engineering and “Tricks”. .
The alternative to a two lap shoot out at the end of the race is finishing under yellow, a fine example of competitive abilities. I’ll take the shoot out. If everyone knowns a two lap shoot out, addition of a few laps is possible, the field is level. Add laps to the last fuel segment, or roll the dice and see if you can pull one out.
Daytona, NASCARs Super Bowl lol. Needs some work still. I would run it in the infield. It’s a great show. I sat on a pit box for the 2020 race. A great race?? Not so much. A wreck fest should be at the county fair grounds on a Saturday night, not at the “Super Bowl”. Definitely room for improvement at the plate races. Will it happen? Very doubtful while the stands are full.
NASCAR Cup runs 6 races on road courses a year with 32 others at more conventional stock car courses. If you don’t like a few, don‘t watch those you don’t care for. You will still have more racing to watch than most other series.
If you last watched Cup racing just three years ago, catch a race with the new cars, you may be pleasantly surprised.

It was pretty cool to see NASCAR add the rain package this season for the short ovals. Teams are now required to run the road course rain setup on ovals less than a mile long. Windshield wiper, splash shields behind the wheels, lighting on the back of the car and the Goodyear rain tires. Looking at the rain tires up close at The Clash, the tread pattern is almost identical to the SuperCar 3/3R's - just a lot more tread depth.
