S197 3V Fabman's build; How did we get here?

The rule of thumb I learned a long time ago was if a crack reaches the edge of the rotor it's now junk. I wouldn't run it, but I tend to be pretty cautious about brakes. I run OEM Ford blanks and haven't had any cracking issues with them, just heat checks in the face, but I'm not racing...

And Li-ion battery instantly comes off the potential mod list! Was on the fence about it but that kind of seals the deal.

S197 3V Fabman's build; How did we get here?

Except it's not though, at least not on the 3 tracks I most often run. On every one of those tracks I am running out of revs in more than one place and need to shift near the end of a straight, whereas if I had 3.55's I could avoid that problem. That's probably my next thing, 3.55s along with...

S197 3V Fabman's build; How did we get here?

So I had 3" hoses with the FTBR kit, which continually got crushed and I don't think they put a ton of air through. I can't imagine how I could have made 4" hoses fit. Out of frustration with the hoses I got the Vorshlag flaps. I did leave the 3" hoses in there, they are cut off at the inner...

Great actor, loved his films. French Connection an unforgettable classic. And then I stumble across this on Wikipedia." In the late 1970s, Hackman competed in Sports Car Club of America races, driving an open-wheeled Formula Ford.[44][45] In 1983, he drove a Dan Gurney Team Toyota in the 24...

Back in the day the thinking was if you stitch welded the seams up front the bar was not needed, I would think that is still true? I have a picture on my desktop of the Mustang GT4 engine room and there is no bar in there.

S197 3V Fabman's build; How did we get here?

I don't find the stock GT rears too bad to work with, looks worse than it really is to change rotors/pads. My track rat neighbour showed me the "beat the rate book" method....

What about a Ford Performance crate motor? Warranty and they make a low compression one for blowers. Man I really hope you can pull something together, always enjoy reading your stuff.

Nah, that'll probably buff right out.:D Seriously though, never seen a rod and piston that destroyed before!

I think the 3" hose is a wear item as well, even just for HPDE/lapping days. Tight quarters in there in a couple of spots, a lot of suspension movement in the right conditions gets stuff into the hose pretty hard. But they definitely make a difference in brake wear, well worth working through...

How the helk can you get a 4" tube snaked in there? I put the 3" ones in and it was a huge PITA trying to route them, can't imagine getting a 4" tube through on a stock front end car!

Got you both covered by 6 years. Should we have a "who's the oldest dude on TMO" thread? I just try to ignore it personally, it's just a number.

Is that Weldon fuel pump the howling one or did you replace the howler with a quieter one?

OK, race car it is. Addition to stable or replacement of current mount is the next question. The clean sheet approach to fixing past sins? Or perhaps a customer car. I love a mystery!:):D

Somewhat of a history guy, but especially about the Pacific war. My old man was one of the unfortunates that got sacrificed, er, sent, to Hong Kong. He was, obviously, one of the few fortunate ones to survive, though the survivors were all in seriously ill health. He was 4 years in hospital...

You da man Sal! I figured you'd have to have a beer fridge in there somewhere, hard to imagine a shop without one tucked away somewhere! And boring? Hell no, what car guy doesn't like looking at other car guys shops? It's the man equivalent of the real estate TV shows the ladies love so much!:D

Interesting. One can never have too many pictures of Mustangs on their walls. Couple of glimpses of the blue Mustang from the "what's he up to now" post of a few days ago, but not enough to see what he's up to with it yet.But the biggest question of all is, where is the most important thing...

Guy in the #2 was a bit optimistic on that pass on the slower car.Around 1989 when I first was thinking about getting into racing I was trying to decide what to run so talked to a lot of guys about pro and con stuff with different classes. A Formula Ford guy said exactly those words about...

Cool channel. Dual to the Death, great pass for the win, you killed the exit of the corner and the other guy was way late trying to shut the door on you going into the other end of the track. You can't shut the door when the other guy is fully beside you!Just love watching short track oval...

Awesome run there man, that had to be a super high. You had kind of a great Terry Labonte look going on back then too. I still sport the 'stache from back in the day, my bride refuses to let me shave the damn thing off, she doesn't like the fact that there's an upper lip under there! Great...
