I have read the Li-ion batteries do have a high risk of explosion if ran completely dead. Also recently had an electrical engineer heavily emphasize this to me on a design project where we use Li-ion batteries.
I had that problem down the back stretch at Road Atlanta. With 4.30's I was done half way down. Had I been able to turn it to 8K without worry, I could have gained a lot more speed and saved several seconds.
I never understood this rule anyway. These are mostly race cars at a race track. Seems to me most of the tracks are somewhat disconnected from civilization and I would think all of the tracks were present before any civilization came close. So if the noise bothers you, you might not want to buy...
