I think you would be VERY surprised by the Goodyear Supercar 3's. I've got one rough asphalt autocross, probably 2-3000 street miles, and 4-5 HPDE weekends on them and they still have plenty of tread. I wouldn't want to drive them in a pouring rain storm but i am surprised by their longevity. I'll snap a picture in a little while of one of the fronts and post it for you. If by chance, you have USAA insurance, you can get a hell of a deal on them. Another reference for tires is the new Grassroots Magazine. They have the tires broken down by category. Despite the Goodyear's being in the super 200TW category, I think they are long wearing, fast track/autocross tireThanks Bill. The Evo there belongs to the mechanic I’ve used to install most of my mods. He does good work at a reasonable price. Perfect Soundz here in Libertyville.
Thanks for th advice about tires. I deal with Luke at Tire Rack. I don’t autocross or track too frequently so I’ll probably stick with a 300 treadwear tire.
Thanks. That doesn't look too bad. I'll look into that and GrassRoots as well.I think you would be VERY surprised by the Goodyear Supercar 3's. Thank you for this. Others have said it's necessary to modify the strut towers in order to get anything over -2.5. Did you find it necessary to do that in order to achieve these settings up front?
Nope. My last Mustang got over -3* of camber without touching holesThank you for this. Others have said it's necessary to modify the strut towers in order to get anything over -2.5. Did you find it necessary to do that in order to achieve these settings up front?
Okay, thank you. I assume you have camber plates installed?Nope. My last Mustang got over -3* of camber without touching holes
yes sir. Installed when the springs went onOkay, thank you. I assume you have camber plates installed?
Thanks Bill. Yes, I deal with Luke at TR and he and I have had a number of conversations about tires, alignment settings, etc. He's been very helpful and has a lot of insight. You are already chatting with Luke at the TireRack ( link to them on this site ) and he is your best bet for discussing what tire you want. Chat with him and see what he thinks , but I would go with a 200 TWR tire since there are some that wear longer, but will still keep you pretty competitive. A 300 is really better for just street and with all the changes you made to the car, the very first item you need to go fast ( tires ) should not be neglected in my opinion. I can think of a couple of possible choices , but Luke ( ext. 4362 ) likely will also know if something else is coming out real soon , or if some things are on back order.
Thank you!! I'm not a fan of cutting holes in the strut tower either. You will be fine at 2.5 degrees or so , up front, because though O-Man got -3 on his past car his current specs does not show that amount. I was unable to get -3 degrees on my past 3 street Mustangs and they all did fine - not big on cutting the hole. Plenty of folks do not want want to do that, yet there are some Mustangs that seem able to get -3 with the factory setting/cut, it is just not a given.
