Anybody know of a really lightweight racing seat that I can drop into the car?

something that dual purposes for street use. Although it needs to be a setup for 80% race use. Which means I can live without some of the better creature comforts of the seat.
I don’t need recline, and cushioning is nice, but it doesn’t need to be the most comfortable. Need to just get the job done.

I was looking at the recaro podiums. They weigh 13 lbs! Plus brackets. From what I hear these aren’t stateside yet until may.

anyone have some good suggestions?

Best suggestion is to find a shop with a selection and test fit to you. HMS in Charlotte is a great shop, a bit of the drive.

found a place today. I found a racing buddy who recommended to check them out. And it paid off.

Wine Country Motorsports

They had about 20-25 seats in stock so I got to try a bunch of them out.

I found the seat I want and went ahead and ordered them.

I went with the Sparco QRT-C

all carbon fiber. These seats weigh 12.5lbs with the cloth on them. And for how light they are. We’re very comfortable.

pretty excited to get everything mounted up
Luckily Everything was in stock. One of the seats was in their Colorado store. And I need the side mounts which were in stock with sparco.

looking like a solid 55lbs in weight reduction.

Anyone have any experience with the pagid RST3 pad?

I just ordered a set for the front. From speaking with the pagid US distributor today. It seems like these pads will have a stronger initial bite then the yellow pads now. That will get the car stopping sooner. I think it will help out with my local track, but tracks like Sebring will do better with the yellows I have now.

just seeing if anyone’s running them and what their feedback is.

im running the yellows as well based off your recommendation, I really like them over the stock pad. I’ve already got 5 track days on them, at two different tracks.

what led me into looking at the other compound, was on Wednesday this week, my buddy had me drive his gt350. He wanted me to see if I could help him diagnose something he was having an issue with. He has the stock pads on his car, and while I was doing some laps I noticed the instantaneous bite of the brakes as opposed to the pagid yellow pads I’m running. I remember from my stock pads how much bite they had also. After some laps in his car I realized it was able to decelerate faster than my car, although the stock pads slowed the car down faster, the controllability was not as good as the pagid brakes i’m running now.

but, I want to be able to get my car to decelerate faster especially on the main straight of my local track.

spoke with the pagid distributors and got some great info regarding their different brake compounds for our cars. The 29 yellow pad is an all around pad, it has long life, good resistance to fade, and operates best at high heat. It does not have a strong initial bite, but it is a very predictable pad. That’s the reason I like it. From talking with them, they mentioned that certain tracks favor their 29 yellow pad and others favor the rst3. The general feedback they receive on these pads comes from Capaldi and Kohr racing. They change between the two pads based on their needs. They always keep the rsl29 yellow pads on the rear rotors and change the fronts to fit their use. Tracks like Sebring benefit from the 29 yellow exactly because it doesn’t bite so hard, but very controllable. Sebring is a fast sweeping track. They mentioned that when switching to the RST3’s, because they are a more aggressive pad, when braking you are going to be activating the ABS allot more so it can upset the car more on hard braking, but it will stop the car faster, these pads don’t last as long as the 29 Yellows. But for PBIR this pad should benefit with all the braking that’s done. You just have to be more sensitive to the braking so you aren’t losing to much speed when you don’t want to.

they also mentioned that rotor temps at the pits should be between 800-900 degrees for optimal performance. As soon as you come in off the track, get your temp gun and check to get the best reading. If it’s between 800-900, then on track it’s around 1000 degrees. if they are 1000-1200 degrees then on track it’s around 1400-1500 which is way to hot. The pads will get chalky white when overheated.

I’m ordered a set of rst3’s to try out and see how they perform.

Finally weighed the seats.

Stock driver seat was exactly 48 lbs. And the passenger was 45 lbs. these numbers were already known from others, but i still weighed them anyway to confirm. This is a total of 93lbs.

The sparco QRT-C with the floor mount and slider for driver side was approximately 29lbs and the passenger seat without the slider was approximately 25lbs.

For a total of 54lbs with the new seats.

That is a weight loss of 39lbs with the new seats now.

Just keeping everything updated.

Was doing a rotor swap today and noticed the unevenness of the pads. These pads are ruined unfortunately.

But I’m trying to figure out what caused this.

The pistons at the bottom seem to be pushing and the pistons up top are not.

I did a brake bleed about a 3-4 weeks ago. I have been out on the track 5 times since then.

Should have caught this earlier, luckily nothing else happened.

Anyone experience this or know how this happened?

Maybe an air bubble that was trapped? I followed the bleed procedure pretty spot on. But it could have been that?

to much heat into the brakes?

you can also see the boots are torn on the top 2 pistons.
