Should be an interesting season with how crazy everything was last year.

That was a pretty entertaining race! Looks like it's Red Bull and Mercedes still at the front but at least they're way closer. And the batter for the mid field should be really fun to watch. And then there's Mazespin. :idontknow:

McLaren had a good showing, with more points scored than Ferrari. Alonso qualified like his old self and was doing well in the race; judging by Ocon ending up in 13th and the usual +4 factor for "being Alonso in a half-decent car" he might have been scrapping for the last point had his car (or tire strategy) not failed him. Tsunoda should be good to watch as the season progresses. Vettel is still in his slump. Was it by accident that Mercedes pulled out the "George Russell Memorial Tire Gun" on Bottas' pit stop?

I'm in the "don't drive outside the white lines" camp. Lewis was way off track on the T4 exit for several laps - he even said on the radio that he'd been driving like that the whole race, so why are the stewards warning the team 3/4 through the race. Max makes the pass on the same exact line that Lewis had been taking, and he as to give it back - Lewis didn't have to give back the time he gained on all those laps.

I liked the solution from the second-to-last corner in the Austrian GP a couple years ago - big "sausage" rumble strips 90 degrees to the direction of travel about 6 feet behind the regular curbs. As long as you had a tire on the striped curb ti was no issue, if you went out further than that you hit the sausages and risked damaging the car. The teams all whined about how their wings and diffusers were breaking, and the stewards didn't care because the drivers shouldn't be driving there in the first place.

Wondering how Vettel is feeling being outrun during practice and qualifying by Stroll and who knows if this continues Jacques Villeneuve might not bad mouth his fellow Canadian so often. Stroll often seems to run quite strong until right at the end , which makes one believe he is burning down his tires? If he figures out how to continue to go fast while conserving his rubber he could be a strong force in the future, imho. Right now it appears there may not be any stoppin for Verstappen this year, though the call was not a surprise to many where he gained an edge. Inside the line, outside the line, F1 just needs to be consistent and having rules change during practice and qualifying , makes it difficult for Drivers to know what the actual status will be. Make a track rule and leave it for the entire race weekend, period.

I'm not too surprised they made Max give the position back, even though they weren't enforcing the track limits in that turn earlier in the race like they said they would. They've always been fairly consistent with not allowing passes to be completed by going off track to do it, regardless of the track limits enforcement situation. I knew there would be controversy with that call though.

I was a little surprised Vettel couldn't battle for points, and that Sergio wasn't up there battling with Valterri. Can't wait to see the second race though to get a better sense of where they all stand. Wish it wasn't so damned far off.

That .7 of a second in the pits really put the screws to Verstappen, if not for that, he could've taken a more measured approach to pass Hamilton (freaking tire guys). Verstappen had to give the position back, but he should've given it back in a place that was more advantageous to him instead of Hamilton. Not quite sure why he fell off in performance right after that though, it didn't really look like a tire issue .It was a great race though, F1 and IMSA are the only series I follow anymore.
Now if they'd just cut the thongs off so you could see the drivers again.
