Looking for opinion on how much better it is to go 11 wide with a 305 vs 10 wide with a 285.

I am battling with idea of extra cost to run 305 on all four and the benefit. I know I will never be the fastest and don't need to be. I just don't want to be sorry later that I didn't spend the money to run a 305.

    Thoughts and thanks!

Many have run 305s on 10s. They fit. I dont know if anyone has run back to back laps with 305s vs 285/295s on 10" rims ..

Thanks for comment. I was always under the impression you don't gain much going wider on a wheel that may not have been meant for it. Meaning a 275/285 is faster than a 295/305 on a 10 inch wide.

I wouldn't say that. Even though that would be my preference.

But the 295/305 would be faster on 11" over 10".

I learnt that the best way to go is get the best you can when you can.... Every time I get something cheap it ends up costing more later on..... :(.... If you can get the 18x11 then thats the best....if you can't wait.... then go ahead with the 18x10.... (which really work well with 295's). But you may regret not spending a little more later on... Our cars really like lots of rubber and the lap times prove it.

Be careful about saying that you dont need, or want, to go any faster..... some how we always end up wanting more sooner or later!!

An 11" wide wheel supports a 305 section width tire very well. I know people can and have run 305s on 10" wheels, but it is not an ideal setup 99% of the time. Our 18x11" ET52 can be rotated front and rear with the use of extended studs and spacers on the front axle. There are also a lot of good track oriented tires that fit the 18x11".

Speaking of which...do you have a particular tire in mind you want to run? If not, how do you plan to use the car? I prefer to start this process by picking the tire first, then selecting the wheel to best suit it.

Here is Sean's Boss on 18x11" all around with a 305/35-18 NT01. Great HPDE setup

Just get the 11", even if all you're going to be putting on them for now are 285/xx. FWIW, even 275/40's and 275/35's are OK'ed out to and including 11" wide wheels.

Call it giving yourself a little more room for growth, and don't let a mildly stretched appearance get in your way here.

My 'track set' is 285/35-18's on 18x11 Forgestars; tread wear has been surprisingly good and more even than you might expect.

Just get a set of 18x11s from Apex --they are on sale now!!! Heck, I run 315 Hoosier R7s on my Boss , so 305s will be more than fine. I would even look at the 315/18s at their price ----$1200 makes them priced on the low end, even less than the 295 Yokohamas. Have not have heard about anyone running these but would be nice to hear results from folks that may have tried them?

Tire Rack reviewers seem to be quite high on this newer YoMama!

PS- you can order off this site by clicking on Tire Rack sponsor site sidebar -315s on sale for just over 300 each!!!

The 295/35-18 Advan 052 is a pretty wide tire as you can see above from its specs. I would definitely want to run it on an 11" wide wheel if I cared about extracting the most performance possible from it. Even when mounted on a 10.5" wide wheel, the tread width is still over 11".

Cory is super helpful , and he convinced me that a 25mm spacer ( 1 inch ) would be the thing with the 18x11 Apex rims and .....................the dude is correct a mundo!!!!! Will be getting another set as soon as all the funds are secured , and momma is helping!?

PS - this is just another plus to buy from someone actually interested in track rats and our cars, as they offer advice based on personal knowledge of the products ( tires and rims ) even though they could just be like many companies and just sell you what you want without discussing all the ramifications. Kudos to Apex!!!

After having 19x11 apex et52 on for a year with a 20mm front spacer I have one problem.
The left rear tire hangs on the bump stop bracket at full droop.
The rim never touches, just the tire rim protector.
I have an adjustable PB but to keep the rear centered in the chassis it will touch when you lift the car.
I'm thinking of doing a little work on the outside of the bumpstop bracket.
    Anyone else have this problem?
